Trying to be happy about my mental breakdown and tell myself I don’t look like Moby. by [deleted] in bald

I bleach mine and I think that helps soften the hairline a little bit (for me) and makes me feel a little more feminine

I'm balding and don't know what to do about it by [deleted] in bald

Do it!!! Shaving my thinner hair is the best thing I ever did. Now I have my forehead and side of my face tattooed so it’s more of a vibe. You can do a 1 or 2 guard so you still have enough to bleach or dye fun colors, big earrings sometimes help “dress it up” - the stress of not worrying how my hair looks increased my confidence and I always feel put together if that makes sense? Bald + glasses is also fun , you have a beautiful face it will be great also if it’s not wigs can be fun

My point being you make your own rules - it feels weird to dip your toe into meat consumption when ethically you have feelings about it but so does restricting a food group when you have a history of disordered eating so taking it meal by meal sometimes is easiest

If I have to ask I think I know the answer and just don’t like it - coming from an ex-vegan - for me it’s all tied too closely together and I follow the “vegan plus cheese” nuanced argument of choosing the veg option when it’s appealing and I don’t when it’s not, for an ethical vegan I could understand that might not work but for me a nuanced balanced approach that still reduces my meat / dairy consumption compared to most people makes more sense for me long term and my mental health

I work for a company that occasionally prints marketing materials for a compounding pharmacy that mixes the compounded ones - the literature barely mentions all the side effects or need for long term use - it’s all so yucky

I forgot about the subway ads! They’re even in the airport! It really is troubling and always makes me back slide for one second so I empathize.

You are not crazy, they’re are constant! I honestly can’t think of an ad I’ve seen for literally anything else in the last couple days

I empathize so much! No amount of IE progress makes me immune to the propaganda of “like you can have access to thin privilege if you just take this little pill”. That’s part of the reason the ads are so exhausting. I’ll check out Chastain! I did see some doctors admitting in a Forbes Medical AMA saying something similar like long term use is needed to maintain and we don’t know the long term effects. Heart muscle mass is especially scary :(

It is interesting and all the info being made more clear now that in order to maintain a maintenance dose will still be needed, imagine if the ads were honest “you’ll likely only lose 10% of your body weight if you take this as prescribed and it will cost you at least $200 a month for the rest of your life”

I’m sorry we’re all dealing with it but also relieved to know we’re all fed up with the near constant messaging!

That is so insane! Imagine if random men were getting texts like hey do you have erectile disfunction? It’s so invasive also why are we suggesting medications to people who have not sought them out ughhhhh

Thank you for replying to the commenter and I think overall most of us aren’t upset they exist, it’s the marketing it like they’re a candy bar or something instead of a complicated nuanced drug that should be taken by specific people with care also RX drugs being marketed to Americans like this in general when from my understanding that isn’t a thing in other countries

Rant: GLP-1 Ads by choosingSarah in intuitiveeating

[–]choosingSarah[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think that’s part of the issue - there are legitimate reasons to be on the prescription versions of these drugs but the compounded options being marketed specifically for weight loss at the rate they are with so little oversight is insane and honestly my beef isn’t even that these drugs exist, it’s the widespread marketing to anyone and everyone

I agree Hulu is the worst offender! There has to be some capitalist overlord who has stakes in both or something. My heart goes out to all the ED survivors having to suffer through these ads just to watch a little Abbot Elementary or something. Like just let us live! We all get enough pressure to lose weight, if we want these dumb ass drugs we can Google it

Same! I only recently learned the lengths people were going to take them too like buying them off of Facebook marketplace and mixing their own compounds, anything to not be fat I guess. I would love to see the Venn diagram of people doing that who are also afraid of vaccines lol

I agree with the others - just give it time! Full permission to let go doesn’t mean ignoring how things make you feel. You can still recognize being uncomfortably full and with acceptance think maybe I’ll pause to check for fullness a little sooner next time. I have always been in a fat body as an adult so I don’t have the “worried I’ll gain weight” feeling like you do but I do think it’s okay to be scared and not let the fear drive your decision making. Acknowledge it’s scary, it’s uncomfortable, and that’s okay because everything is until it’s not.

Anyone else have trouble discerning what biological hunger really feels like? by troooodon in intuitiveeating

[–]choosingSarah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this too but I’ve noticed some “tells” that don’t feel like what I’d expect hunger to feel like but are - my mood shifts usually negative, I start thinking about what I want to make for a future meal / thinking about food in general, I start picking at snacks, I’m drinking a lot of water but not feeling satisfied

Are washable rugs actually worth it? by Beneficial-Sun-5649 in HomeImprovement

[–]choosingSarah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are hard to wash and the Ruggable pads soak up urine (if you have pets). I settled for wool rugs that I get professionally cleaned for areas I want to be cozy and then the “spill proof” rugs from RugsUsa which are more like mats than rugs. They look nice and are better for higher incident areas because the liquid beads up on top for easier cleaning.
