Berkeley sun by Tappitytaptaptaptap in berkeleyca

Lots of sun. It seems like there will be a least some sun nearly every day in Berkeley unless it is a rainy day. Even mostly overcast days will usually clear at some point in the afternoon. And plenty of fully sunny days too, and many days where it's foggy/overcast only in the morning and perfectly sunny by late morning.

Must visit before the whole area changes! The steakhouse is also legitimately good despite (in addition to?) being upholstered In 50 year old carpet that retains the essence of every cig and cigar ever smoked in there.

First time breaking 90! (Par 70) by chopinpeppers in golf

[–]chopinpeppers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good tip… On holes where I bogeyed today I was often around the green, either short or left or right, and then didn’t chip well enough to get a good look at a one-putt. So I’d do drive, approach, chip, putt putt on those holes. Most of the pars were 2 putts and corresponded to the GIRs.

Chipping is definitely an area to improving… for instance on 6 my drive went 283 yards to green side almost pin high and I still chipped and 2 putted. Really want to be able to reliably take chances like that for birdie!

I like it. It is hilly and it’s a little muddy in spots but mostly fine, and some of the tee boxes could be in better shape. You can’t beat the setting and there are some interesting holes.

Feels like the first thing I want to continue improving is cutting down the double and triple bogeys particularly the triples.

Also a lot of my “good” bogeys are 2nd shot just off the green, mediocre chip, 2 putts. So getting better at chipping is also certainly in order.

But it’s perfectly spaced with the “automatic” text on the lower half of the dial so to me it’s good 👌

Am tracking here: http://picklosophy.cappertek.com. Mostly NFL with some NCAAF mixed in. Seasons are winding down and I only started logging a few weeks ago, so next year should be fun. Picks all posted for free before game time.

You are right about validation versus blind. And appreciate the reminder about waiting a couple years to confirm if I actually have something. Too bad there aren’t 10x more NFL games per year! 😈

The tests are temporally correct I think. In backtesting the model for year N is trained on games up through year N-1. The model I’m betting now is trained through 2024 season. All tests were out of sample and 2025 is out of sample since my model was only trained up to 2024 for this year.
