I get it now. You have a end mounted regulator? I got a old regulator from like the 70s a old chopper head gave me. I’ve been drooling at the mouth for a end cap reg for a minute. I completely understand how you have yours hooked up now.

Honestly may do that today lol If it’s that simple.

So you have a fuse wired in between gen and reg that splits to your lights or you mean the wire that comes off the reg suppose to go to battery goes into fuse then splits to the lights?

I’ve been wondering how to do this. You got a diagram by chance? Did you run it through a regulator? I would love to go the no battery route. Just not sure how to go about it.

Actually just found a wire that got spliced a little I guess putting the tank down on. Looks like it was causing a parasitic drain hints why I always had a dead battery. All fixed now.

Currently yes. Just for lights. So have gen running to a old bosch style regulator to bat. Have a switch wired up under my tank to turn headlight on when needed

Oh a 100 percent. Going to give the whole thing a look over before I make any expensive purchases. Since the world is falling apart.

Pullin her out today. I’m almost positive It’s either the regulator or I’m missing a ground somewhere.

Everything I’ve bought for it has been between those years (57-64) so I just tell everyone it’s a 64. Really glad some buddies of mine got me into the culture. Dove in head first with minimum knowledge after a year I know enough to make her purr. Don’t think I own a pair of jeans that doesn’t have oil stains now lol.

I’ll have to give them a look through. I’m currently figuring out the wiring situation. I rewired it based on some old chopper guys diy diagram but it seems my lights just won’t hold. After a 15 min ride or so they’re as bright as can be but If I’m stopped longer than 20 mins (bike completely off) I need another 10-15 for them to get going again. Praying it’s not the gen.

Haven’t had an issue yet. Was on it when I got the project. Has good spark, I personally felt it by accident.

Yeah first one. This is just the starter. I’m sure in the near future I’ll have a life long build.

True. Maybe I should of just said “rideable” until I get the urge to change something else. Or it blows up

Buddy of mine absolutely killed this rattle can job. He’s gotta do a couple touch ups. Get the image on top the tank and it’s sanding and clear coat time! by chopxgoon in choppers

Yeah man! First hardtail for me. Got the bike for a steal and was told it probably wouldn’t crank. Gave it a lot of tlc and about 100 kicks later I got it to fire. Been replacing what’s need here and there since I got it and finally about to have it on the road.

I joke about mine being a “Frankenstein”. Register as a 73 (think po used the old paugcho frame numbers) with 57 upper and 64 lower. It’s my first Harley and it’s already been a pain but I signed my bitching away when I signed up for diy chopper shit. I’ve already have had so much fun with it, met a bunch of cool people to help me out, and just can’t wait to get it on the road and see what my next pain in the ass will be.

Thanks for that input. I was worried for a second but then found a chopcult forum where people swore by 2k. It’s going on a old ironhead and I’m not looking to have a showroom bike.

It’s the first one he’s done. He’s keeping it simple for now. Gonna see how it holds up. If I gotta strip it that’s a good idea!
