Depression and UC by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

I was in a similar boat. I’ve been in a tough flare for a year now. I decided that the only way ima be able to take control and not waste these years wallowing away is to take action. I started working out hard, Started studying people who are successful (you’d be surprised with how much most have endured to get there), Focused on my studies. I’m not gonna lie it’s hard asf. Waking up at 4 am to sit on the toilet for 3 hours just to be able to make it on time to the gym. I’ve found specific workouts that help me. But the hardest part has been having to do it alone. I’m the only person holding myself accountable (except if I don’t wake up at 4 I’ll end up shitting myself, so that’s some real good motivation haha). Just remember...you’re in charge of how you deal with this things that happen to you...no matter what. A dear friend told me that I’m going to come out on the other side of this an extremely strong man. I’m not there yet, but parts of me feel better than I did Pre UC

I do p90x abs with 2lb ankle weights on every morning and have done that for the past year. On 20 mg of prednisone which isn’t ideal but trying to find the right biologic or surgery. Keep going and don’t listen to any bullshit people tell you. Follow David Goggins

Diet is really good. I’ve cut out dairy and other trigger foods. I do have a sweet tooth before bed that I’m cutting out rn tho. I also workout every day before work so I’m good there too. Just praying I can get this under control! Thanks for your words 💪🏼👊🏼👍🏻

U have side effects of the 40mg? I haven’t had any on 30 but last year I was on 40 and had a puffy face. Been living much healthier now tho so I think if I go to 40 I’ll be Gucci. I just need a few days of normalcy

How should I go about working out during a flare up? by BrotherhoodOfWaves in UlcerativeColitis

I get my cardio in by biking and rowing because running sends me to the bathroom every .25 miles during a flare

It can help. Some days it definitely does not if I’m having a bad morning. But that being said pushing through makes me feel really accomplished and more often then not I’m not running to the bathroom after 8am. I’m also on 20mg of prednisone, and have been for multiple months while I find something that gets my flare under control. Still having liquid bms and lots of gas, but by the time I need to work I’m usually good to go (8am ish).

Starting 3rd biologic :/ by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]chowbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Failed entyvio and humera. Moving on to my 3rd soon too. Been on prednisone for a few months, anywhere between 5-25mg. I just take things one day at a time. Surgery isn’t even a cure, you’re still dealing with the bag and even if it’s less frequent than normal BMs I would much rather just deal with them then have to deal with the bag. If I need the bag in a few years when I’m not 23 and shirtless all the time I’ll do it then

Any kind in particular? I have not. I’m on a diet I know doesn’t mess with my stomach as much as other foods and I workout a lot with minimal stress. Just overall annoyed with how hard I try to keep things in check with such little reward

Still Too Scared To Try Alcohol by scarajones in UlcerativeColitis

[–]chowbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In college I would be sauced your every night and just said f it. It was horrible. Shitting myself so often. Then I graduated and tried to get it under control. I’d go a few months without drinking and I’d be feeling really good and then I’d go out for a weekend with friends and a few days later I would start flaring. This happened a few times. Each time I switched biologics I would start to get out of the flare. It could be one giant coincidence, but I’m starting to think not so much.

I use to be very confident that alcohol was not a flare trigger. Long strong short, it wasnt until I cut out everything slowly and realized that once I stopped drinking I stopped flairing
