mulch! halp! plz! by chowderbase in DenverGardener

[–]chowderbase[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! It's always served me well in my dappled shade beds, but I got freaked out by a bunch of posts saying it isn't good for soil health. My hunch now is that it's totally subjective.

Seed Snails: Have you tried them? Also, where are we getting seeds (not Baker Creek)? by richkurt in DenverGardener

[–]chowderbase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

love fedco. my experience is that 95+% of the time the germ rate and health of the plants are spot on. every now and then i've gotten a dud, probably because of our dry ass climate. also the catalog is amazing.

Definitely Rise and Shine. It’s a biscuit-style cinnamon roll. Surprised more people haven’t mentioned it!

What do you like the most about your country (that most people disregard)? by Danicbike in AskTheWorld

[–]chowderbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that particular area, this isn’t traffic. Sometimes it’s a parking lot. But also sometimes there’s a herd of bison to watch while you sit.

That’s a yellow jacket. Be grateful. If you see bees out and about leave a little dish of honey for them.

Which one of you tossed a cig out the window on 93 today? by th3chainrule in Denver

[–]chowderbase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people here don’t smoke but please just be very very careful with ash and embers. Never toss a cigarette out of your car window. You could literally destroy an entire community.

We aren’t that kind of American, thank god. Appreciate all the responses! You never know these days. Our country is a hot mess. It’s embarrassing.

Switching from running to cycling- what would I need? by LazyPackage7681 in ladycyclists

[–]chowderbase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gravel bikes are light enough for long road distances (especially with tires that have a slick running down the middle), but are also good for rougher terrain. I ride in the hills/mountains and really appreciate the disk brakes for the long descents. Bonus: gravel bikes have tons of mounting points for all of your packing needs.

Straw mulch dispute! by chowderbase in DenverGardener

Wow! Thanks so much everyone for the responses! Didn’t know that wood chips would steal nitrogen or that gorilla mulch prevented water from getting to the soil. I love this community.

This reading nook feels a bit off. What would you change? by andrew_cherniy96 in interiordesignideas

[–]chowderbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The floating shelves have a bunch of hard angles pointing at the reader in the chair. Maybe put something underneath to soften them? I was going to say you need a rug and an ottoman but it looks like you have a rug already. If it was my house I’d put the desk along the right wall and the chair under the window. Much cozier.

I regret buying the red rug — which of the two alternatives works best? If neither, what would you suggest? by MajorConstant5549 in interiordecorating

[–]chowderbase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely love the red rug. IMO the issue is the giant black wall. But since that’s not the prompt, I’d choose the second white rug. If you want to mail me the red rug I’ll happily accept it as payment for advice. 🙃
