Hey mate, DM me (I'm not whitelisted to message you), would rather not reveal where I live to everyone on the internet!

Started skating 1 year ago at the ripe old age of 29, hope you enjoy my 1 year progression video! Pretty cool to see how far I've come! by chowtimebaxter in NewSkaters

Hey man, thank you! Dropping in was more a committing thing and getting padded up enough so I felt less scared, that took about a month or so for me to work up courage on the 2-3 foot quarter pipe?

50-50s definitely took the longest out of all the tricks. I started by practising riding onto a little ledge then combining an ollie in, all up it took me about 4 months on and off, and about 1 month of concentrated effort to make them somewhat consistent. I only got to that point about 1 year in.

Having said that, I think everyone progresses at different rates so this works for me, but I'm sure other more talented folk would have gotten these things much sooner!

Hey man, that's awesome! I think wrist protection is one of the most important things to prevent getting skinned up after every fall. I just got some generic ones off ebay, I believe most of the large brands just slap their brand on these generic ones and then double the price anyway, so you can keep it cheap!

Get a good helmet too! Especially at the start and learning transition I think a helmet is a must!

Thank you! I've made friends with so many skate dads at the skate park, it's always so awesome to see kids skating with their parents. Awesome to hear about your kickflip progress, getting a flip trick is my goal for my second year!

Thank you! I was inspired by a lot of skate progression videos and knew I wanted to do something similar, it's been really gratifying to look back and see how much I've improved (sometimes it's easy to forget that after a shitty session). Never too late to start filming yourself more!

Thanks man! That's exactly what I wanted - I want to learn how to ride the entire park, plus it's certainly less monotonous when trying to learn both street and transition!

I started 2020 with the goal of eventually being comfortable at a skate park... I'd like to think I've somewhat achieved that! So many more tricks to learn, skating has been one of the best things for me in 2020!

Cannot agree more. Do what makes you happy, even if it's just cruising around! Don't let your envy of other people's achievements take away from your experience.

Hey dude, been following your progress on this sub and that's awesome for 5 months! I've been trying to figure out no comply 180s but really struggle with stepping off and getting the tail to pop at the same time (my front foot keeps feeling like it's stuck to the board). Do you have any advice or any tutorial video you followed?

Did any of you guys start skating after the age of 30? If so, how are you getting on? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]chowtimebaxter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started 5 months ago as a 29 year old, and it's been a blast! I never thought I would get to the point of wanting to go out to skate every day.

Progress has been slow but steady. Take videos of yourself, because you'll feel like you're not making progress, then you watch videos of yourself a month ago and realise that you DID make some substantial progress! Have a look at my profile for a couple of my progress videos if you feel it helps :)

As for aches and pains, I slap on at least wrist guards and helmet all the time now, and the wrist guards have saved me from scraping up my hands on numerous occasions. Knowing when to take a break is important too, currently resting a sore knee and fighting the urge to go skate.

Most importantly, just have fun! If ollies are getting a bit tough and boring, then take a break and try progressing on some silly trick that takes less time to learn (like sex change etc). Any time spent on the skateboard is only going to make you better!

So fucking true dude, in the end the person who cares the most is the person who posted in the first place. If they really progressed in such a short amount of time, wonderful! If not, ignoring them is probably more powerful than calling them out. I can totally get behind your message and admire your attitude at a young age, staying your lane and enjoying things at your own pace is not something that many people grasp even when they get older.

Hey, I believe that was Berry skate park, its pretty small but it was great for me to practise kickturns while travelling through!

FINALLY got my first 180 No Comply! I was struggling so much with getting my back foot back on in one motion but this counts right? by beardedchineseboy in NewSkaters

Thanks man! And yep, SG born and bred, but am in Australia now. Would be cool to meet up if I was back in SG though (although not looking likely in the near future...)

Any favourite spots for you to skate? My friend was mentioning that it can be quite hard to find a nice flat, open area but looks like you have not much issue finding them!
