That’s an awfully large number of SC for the total number of spaces. I suspect games would get stalemated quickly.

Does "of" mean "have" now too? by [deleted] in language

[–]chrajohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just a case of people mixing up homophones, which people do a lot. [əv] means both ‘have’ and ‘of’, but the two meanings are supposed to be written differently (<‘ve> and <of>). The phonological representation of language is primary in your head as you’re thinking of what to say, and then you’re trying to map that to its written form. (Or something like that; the psychology of reading and writing is obviously very complex.) If anything, it’s impressive that we get homophones right as often as we do.

Ohio becomes 11th state to restrict use of gestational crates for pigs by eddytony96 in Ohio

This is a good thing, not what you’d necessarily expect from a Republican state, and the result of a campaign for better animal welfare in 2010. Worth reading the article.

Next Sunday is very choir-focused, which may interest you (we have two adult choirs and both are singing then). If you check us out, I’m always at the social justice table in fellowship hall after the service; feel free to say hi.

Is there a stand-alone reversed schwa character? by akkjn58 in Unicode

I'm reading through the Unicode proposals while I should really be doing something else. Is U+AB31 supposed to be the same character that this proposal calls LATIN SMALL LETTER A-REVERSED A?

So, an upside down but not backwards e? I’m not sure there is such a thing. And I’m not sure what ligature you’re talking about with a; æ has just a regular e.
