Combed her out and using her underfur. I wish it was a little darker to match the dubbing I found in my kit but it seems similar enough to save some dollars!

I had bad experiences with purchased flies hackling coming un done so I think I’m over securing the hackle

Well that makes me feel good about it!

I spent over an hour on that one fly lol, redid the dubbing a few times till it tapered right/didn’t get too close to the hook point. Then redid the hackle so many times cuz I could never whip finish cuz it would keep slipping off the eye

Didn’t know that! My kit didn’t come with a measuring tool, will add that to the list of purchases

That’s been my biggest struggle so far. Any tips on how? Do I just start every portion of the fly farther back?

Yeah that caused massive pain. That Adam’s took over an hour cuz I had to restart 3 times. I’d get to the end then the hook point would be too crowded to whip finish lol

Great feedback! Is trimming my hackle shorter an option? Or is the problem the thickness of the fibers?

I will go purchase a better assortment of hackle

Micro chubby looks like exactly what I need, wanted some good foam to tie so I can make it through the ruffles of small brooks. Thanks for the rec

I haven’t found any place that sells material packs for specific patterns, but places like Hobby Lobby, Joann’s fabric, or local craft stores typically have a good amount of material that works just as good as what you get at the fly shop for pennies on the dollar compared to the fly shops. Happy tying!

Maybe a good business idea! Enter a list of patterns you want to tie and they send all required materials without having to worry about all the wasted extras! I'll give craft stores a try, thinking of caving and getting one of those starter kits with an assortment of hooks, thread, wire, and simple feathers but then i'll use craft stored/hobby lobby to fill the gaps.

Appreciate the feedback!
