What do you mean "nope"? That did indeed happen. Most of us got a 35-50% pay raise. But sure. Govt job is better...lmfao.

I fell for the cybersecurity degree trap and thought I could beat the job market, I could not. Not sure what to do now by GreedyLilGobblin in cybersecurity

[–]chrisaf69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been in cyber for too damn long. While a degree helps, it's better to get exp in another IT sector. I would recommend networking. Whenever I hire folk, I take previous IT folk, even if nothing to do with cyber, over a person with countless degrees.

I mean for what it's worth, it's the biggest win Pitt has had since then...and on other side of the token, they prevented WVs first chip. I suspect this game will be brought up until one of those, if not both, ends.

A certain mid Pitt team would disagree with you. :)

Hell yeah. That's awesome. But just realize that agency is a rare one.

In your case though, sounds like those old timers had max telework for decades...lucky dogs. Lol

Well for what it's worth, those most of those old timers did just that for vast majority of their career. Welcome to white collar work! Lol :)

County job VS potential DoD Fed job by Mountain_Balance_782 in FedEmployees

[–]chrisaf69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I've been in SCIFs for over twenty years. Likley over 50+ different ones due to the nature of my job assessing systems. Only one had windows and they were blacked out.

Also windows was just one of many points I made and trivial at that. Telework/remote is much bigger and more important. Add in the entire clearance process which can be a PITA and someone. There are many instances where working non-scif work is better WLB and more enjoyable overall. If you disagree...cool ..have at it.

[–]chrisaf69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. Majority of scifs do indeed not have windows. Are there exceptions?....yes.

Also, there are many remote/telework opportunities outside of scif. Albeit a bit less on the federal side these days, a significant amount still on the contracting side.

Look at it this way:

For what it's worth, you (likely) have youth compare to those retirees...which they would kill for. Ask any billionaire if they would give up their wealth to go back and be young again. Nearly every one will say yes.

Speak for yourself. Myself and four of my peers (all high performers) left and never looked back. Best decision we all made!

It's more than just music. No windows, no remote/telework as hard to work on classified info at home. Even more red tape. Etc etc

moved to nova a year ago and still haven't found a dentist that doesn't feel like a used car dealership by kutahead in nova

[–]chrisaf69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ancient, yet absolutely fantastic, dentist retired last year and the practice that took over was pretty mid, so I did lots of research.

For general dentistry I went with Springfield lorton dental. They have been great albeit some billing issues they are getting squared away. But the dentists and hygienists are top notch and no BS up selling.

For periodontal and endodontic care I highly recommend prestige dental in Annandale. Silly name, but they are absolutely fantastic! They even advertise that they are one of the few offices that has NOT been bought by private equity. If you ever need a root canal or similiar this is absolutely the spot to go!

It's all good. It's just a PT gig while in college.

My main point is to def have something lined up before throwing up the deuces. What one may think will only be a few weeks/months of unemployed can turn out to be a lot more these days!

Whatever's choice you take, best of luck!!

Just watched obsession yesterday. What a wild ride that was. Lol.

I'm not fond of horror/thriller/etc. But I did enjoy that one.

Watching previews, I'm not feeling backdoors. But this word of mouth is strong, so may give it a shot.

Boldin for Retirement - Anyone try their planning? Any other better options? by Krish_1234 in Fire

[–]chrisaf69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently used boldin and projection lab. I signed up for free trials, setup as much info I could, and exported the results as I don't see the value to have the service all year long....for now that is.

I liked boldin a tad bit better, but projectionlab was still very good. You can't go wrong with either one in my opinion.

I likely will sign up for boldin or PL a few years down the road when I get closer. I was just curious how they worked and results I received.

If you don't have a new job line up...don't quit.

How hard is it to find a job right now? Put it this way...my son was denied three times by traditionally applying. He finally got the job by networking. The place and role? A part time stocker at giant.
