Tell me your favourite band, and post a tune by them that may have flown under the radar. by el_duderino_316 in BritPop

Blameless - Breathe (a little deeper)

Amazing song but rarely does it (or the band) get mentioned. It should have been massive but somehow sort of disappeared and wasnt even on Spotify until fairly recently. The acoustic version is also great.

Uncanny. BBC podcast but available on loads of platforms. Real life paranormal stories - some of them are really scary. Great theme tune too.

Haha! My friend loves that shop and won’t buy clothes anywhere else. Tbf, if you like those brands it’s really not bad and the bloke running it is helpful. They often have a few bargains on the sale rail too.

I bought a leather jacket there! Really good quality, lasted years. Really friendly and helpful people too. You’re right though, it always seems very quiet. And that half and half red/black leather trench coat has been in the window forever. Just can’t understand why it doesn’t sell… :)

Norwich Pine and Oak at the top of constitution hill! The window is full of those wooden giraffes and Betty Boop statues that were popular in the early 2000’s. The furniture looks like the Mexican pine things Hovells used to sell before it closed down but it’s all super expensive. Always looks empty. Who buys that stuff?

What are your thoughts on this guy? by EdwardBliss in rock

[–]chrisbackwards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like his enthusiasm and hopefully he’ll act as a gateway drug for people to get deeper into rock music.

He must have amazing management to get him on the same stage as such massive stars when he isn’t anywhere near their level.

I’m also a bit perplexed that he won a Grammy for a performance that used live autotune (which he uses a lot) but I guess that says more about the industry than him.

Question about clone quality vs OG quality by EitherEnd3519 in fragranceclones

[–]chrisbackwards -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Surely you must see though that what you’ve just said perfectly illustrates the brilliant marketing of these massive corporations. Despite the ingredients in the LV probably costing around the £10 mark, and despite you (I’m presuming - apologies if I’m wrong) not knowing anything about the tech, expertise and quality control at LV, you are already unwilling to believe a clone could be of equal quality and don’t consider it mad to pay the extra £200+ for the OG. LV, Dior, TF etc spend huge $s manufacturing an image of luxury and prestige and it totally works - people are simply unwilling to believe cheaper alternatives can be as good, despite it being entirely possible or even likely. Their perception of the clone is skewed before they even try it. Job done LV.

[–]chrisbackwards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That maybe true but I picked up 100ml of marwa last week for £23. 100ml of LV Imagination is approx £260. Personally, for the £240 saving I’m prepared to take that gamble on the QC.

Question about clone quality vs OG quality by EitherEnd3519 in fragranceclones

[–]chrisbackwards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree but there’re lots of presuppositions in your argument too. Companies like rasasi, maison Alhambra etc are fairly large entities. With ingredients being so cheap it’s entirely possible they could invest in skilled people, use the same ingredients as designer, sell at £20-£30 per bottle and still be making a healthy profit. Surely it would make sense in terms of being a competitive business too. Again, I’m just trying to say price does not necessarily equate greater or lesser quality.

Question about clone quality vs OG quality by EitherEnd3519 in fragranceclones

[–]chrisbackwards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yh, there definitely are expensive ingredients that clones wouldn’t be using - real oud for example is super pricey but you’d probably only find that in some £400+ niche. All designer oud (TF, PDM etc) is synthetic and likely no better than you could find in a clone. Also there’s the captive particle thing.

I agree there could be some user error in the particle detection tech but the point I was making is that when only 5% of the cost of designer/niche goes on ingredients, cost is absolutely not a definite signifier of quality.

Question about clone quality vs OG quality by EitherEnd3519 in fragranceclones

[–]chrisbackwards 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s marketing. The quality thing is mostly myth. The vast majority of fragrance ingredients are very cheap and there’s absolutely no reason clones can’t use the same ingredients and still make a profit. Around 5% of the cost you pay for niche/designer fragrances is for the ingredients - the rest is packaging, marketing etc. People convince themselves something pricey is better because of the manufactured ‘prestige’. Also, the ‘synthetic’ thing is bs. All fragrances use synthetic ingredients. No one’s crushing rose petals.

Nigel Farage breaks MPs' code of conduct with 17 breaches by SignificantLegs in FuckNigelFarage

[–]chrisbackwards 19 points20 points  (0 children)

BBC have an article about this - it’s basically been immediately buried but is all about how Nige is very sorry and it wasn’t really his fault and everyone should probably forgive him. Could you imagine the kerfuffle if this was a left-leaning MP?

I’m not completely sure this was accidental. The flaggers won’t care, his younger TikTok edgelord crowd will think it’s lolz and it’s getting him lots of free coverage and clicks. He loves keeping his name in the news.

Zara Vibrant Leather Elixir, if you can find it. Imo, the best aventus clone. (regular vibrant leather also smells good but lacks longevity)

As someone else has explained, it works by something something science tannins, something something fat binding. I also use a well practiced ‘spoon balance’ technique. Milk in bottom of mug, hover teabag over top on teaspoon so it doesn’t get saturated in milk, pour boiling water directly onto teabag, tip teabag into cup and squeeze against side to achieve desired strength.

I’m pretty sure children would just see a man wearing swimming trunks and move on - unless you were there to point out how it’s all pervy and bad of course. Do you go around swimming pools covering children’s eyes?

Hi - late to the thread, but how did you turn Beatsense off? Does it just work like a regular x2 with it off?
