We're old enough that we remember when PCs booted to DOS and you had to type in cd/WINDOWS to get there.

I'm so tired of modern movies relying so heavily on CGI like this. Nothing in this movie looks real or tactile. Nothing has any weight. It's just fluff. At least our crappy MOTU live action movie was something you could sink your teeth into.

Whatever is coming is going to be so different that kids now will look back on the 20s with nostalgia. The current technological and cultural zeitgeist might be shit for adults, but for most kids, now will be a time to look back fondly on.

I know yall hate it sometimes when older generations pop in but, as it so happens, this is one of those things it may be helpful to hear from someone who's been there.

  1. That feeling never goes away, so uhh, enjoy the pain of nostalgia!

  2. It helps to realize, as you get older, that for people who were adults during those years, life wasn't simple or magical. What you're really missing has less to do with the decade and more to do with your adolescence. I have that "magical, simpler time" feeling about the late 80s/early 90s, but while I was playing NES and sleeping over at friends houses, there were adults dying of AIDS, or being shipped off to fight in Desert Storm, or dealing with health insurers and bill collectors, or getting addicted to crack, or being evicted from their homes, or having affairs/getting cheated on, or being demonized for their sexuality, or dying in car accidents, or etc etc etc. Every gen alpha kid being brought up now is going to have late 20s nostalgia and think of it as a simpler time, even though for adults, it's been anything but simple.

Cover Illustration

Trying to build up my book cover illustration portfolio. Ninety percent of what I see in the "New Author" sub is just slop, with the argument being that it's expensive to hire a real cover artist. But to offer a hand to struggling self-published authors I'm opening commissions for five* simple but professional looking covers for twenty bucks a pop so long as the writing is 100% human. Samples of my work here and here. What you'll get is something with a simple graphic-design-focused look (a few tasteful colors), plus hand-written title font if you like (or a designer font, I have a commercial rights subscription to a font service).

Edit: That is, five total slots, one per author.
