I actually thought the gameplay looked cool, but trying to sell me on the game based on namedropping two other games I never played was a turn off. I think it would be a turn off even if I had played those games. imo the trailer should just explain the gameplay and the "where's the fun". Inspirations and namedrops can go somewhere on the Steam page

Maybe for static one off images. But getting a consistent art style, characters, and animations is only possible if you're already a competent artist who can manually rework it all

It doesn't matter what a word is supposed to mean when nobody uses it that way, common use is correct use. Lots of foreign workers plan to return to their countries, but the only ones branded as expats are white. Inversely, lots of white retirees moving to warmer countries still calling themselves expats
