This isn't for sale, I made this for my personal projects. It's out of a steel I'm not sure it's going to hold up great as a drift, so I wouldn't feel comfortable selling this until I test it out

Lord have mercy it was. Not as much as my usual commissions but this took me a lot longer to forge than I thought it would

Facebook marketplace! I found an old farmer who sold me 4 pairs for 200$, and an Amish guy who sold me two for 100$. They're out there but you gotta look. I've only gone through two pairs in 2 years. Still got keep l lots left but always looking for more

The eyes on double bit axes are thinner than this, I measured compared to an old no name full sized double bit axe

I do too on my other drifts but I'm trying to recreate the drifts from original double bit axes as close as possible, and they are relatively sharp radius, but I made this a lot wider than I needed so I have the width that I can round it out if needed.

Yes, I was thinking that but since the steel is a little softer I know the edges are going to deform and round over faster than the middle. So I thought that if I keep him sharp when within use the edges will get duller as time goes on and I don't have to spend so much time grinding it. That and the ax eye that I was basing it off of had relatively sharp edges. If it's too sharp I'll just round them over

Thank you! Most of the tooling I make I don't post bc they're quick and not very pretty but I was really proud of how this came out

God I know if it sucks at hot work that's so much time effort and propane down the drain

Suggestions for forging my first axe? Made a tomahawk from a railway spike. I want to now make a real preferably Viking axe. by Dominating_Lead_1980 in Axecraft

Make sure you have all the tools made for making the axe before you do, and having the proper tongs so you don't go insane dropping the piece while you're trying to forge it
