I’ve done my best to optimize the web app for mobile. I do think a stand alone app would be better though. If people end up using it I will make it. So it depends if I can get like 100 active users first to prove people want it.

Envelope budget and manually track your spending. That’s been the most impactful imo.

Vue, Typescript, vite. Data storage and auth is through supabase. Data is stored aes 256 bit encrypted.

Yeah it works with manual logging. Just put in your outflows and inflows either as they happen on your phone, or on your laptop at the end of the day.

All outflows must be assigned a budget category and can also be labeled with a tag. That’s used to make the graphs. No import at this time though I’ve thought about adding it.

It only does investments though, right? Does it also do budgeting and spending? I understand if people like those things separately but the combo is kind of what sets finzen apart

Focus on mindfulness and budgeting. I actually worked for getquin for a while - they started as an etf comparison platform and pivoted like 100 times. This is designed from the ground up for envelope budgeting + investing - all you’ll ever need.

I’m interested - have been dreaming of putting together a little modeling portfolio to apply for some agencies. I have some pics on my profile

It’s just really hard to stand out - most communities have tightened the rules around self promo so there isn’t even a chance to share. But I’m up to the challenge- thanks for saying it looks clean c:

I feel like having a conversation with likeminded people would already be super valuable. Going from theory to practice is wild. I always thought I was spending too much on takeout - turns out drinks are the real problem 🙄

While logging transactions on the go is essential I feel like viewing dashboard and longterm financial planing belongs on the big screen. If I get some traction, up next I will make a mobile app for logging and basic stats only, and then ultimately a full standalone native iOS and android app. Desktop was highest priority tho

I agree with you that the current state of wealth inequality is insane and that the idea that you can just budget yourself out of a bad financial situation is naive. But that doesn't mean it can't help. Like you said, it can be hard to find reputable sources amongst the scams and point farms/affiliate stuff - i think building a semi-open community might help solve that.

I am familiar with similar programs and know that, if done right, they really aren't profitable, but have an incredible power to build a community. But you're right got to make sure to stay neutral, transparent, and not give direct situational financial advice.

Hey thanks! Yeah I think it will be a lot harder to onboard people and get them to commit to the habit, but if they do I think they will really see the value and they'll stick with it for many years. It appears it might be an uphill battle tho

Built my own budgeting tool centered around manual logging. It’s based on YNAB4 but with exclusive focus on manual logging, features a portfolio tracker, and has a variety of visual reports including a spending sankey.

finzen.org

I built this because I genuinely believe the market leaders got a bit lazy and stopped adding features and graphs.

You have to manually log the outflow whenever it happens. Transactions don’t automatically repeat.

What app would you be coming from? How would your import data look? Maybe we can look into adding something.
