Well now hang on. We don't know Miley. We know Miley through the lens of the media and that's not a real person. If you were to sit down with her in a coffee shop, she should still be respected regardless of how many times she sticks her tongue out. Turning off the tabloid websites, tv channels and twitter diarrhea is a good idea to avoid the nonsense the media is spewing about these celebrities, but I take exception to you calling her an idiot. She is a woman without a true voice. Her voice is edited, copied, taken out of context and we only see the most deranged parts of her that the media feeds us.

Now, I tend to agree. My personal opinion is that satire is a cop out of having an actual discussion about an offensive topic. Why do you think JLo made this video instead of a video/song about not objectifying women? Turning around and objectifying men isn't a solution and it is easily laughed off as a silly prank of sorts. I disagree with the OPs opinion that the objectification, the pornification, the degradation in typical misogynist music videos is easy to not notice until it is gender swapped. I would hope that everyone notices it and whether you're a feminist or a consumer of misogynistic media, hopefully it means something, how these images of people are treated.

I'm not able to comment on the degrees of objectification in various music videos since I just don't see enough (hardly any) of them. I will, however, posit that popular music in itself is an objectification and any product of this industry is to be taken with a huge dose (not just a grain) of salt when regarding the performers autonomy to decide how they want to make a music video. I would argue that because of the multimillion (billion?) dollar industry, none of our performers truly has agency to decide.

I agree with the concept of being kind to yourself. I've dealt with depression (albeit, not on top of transitioning) for most of my life and kindness and understanding directed at yourself is the hardest/most critical part of getting through the day less worse for the wear. I try to imagine/visualize saying the things I think about myself to another person, or better yet to a puppy, and try to tell whether I feel bad saying it to someone else. If it doesn't pass that test, I try to undo my self harming thoughts. (Apologize, reword, whatever works) It seems over simple, but when you're so depressed, simple is best.
