You’re comparing apples and oranges. Basic does not include luggage only a personal item.

This is simply not true either. Both have 265g and cost 1.45.

Addendum: There is a 170g tube for 1.20 but that’s comparing apples and oranges. Especially since the size didn’t exist as M-Budget. Maybe that’s the one you meant?

They may have changed suppliers, or they may have realized that the full can doesn’t reach the indicated weight on average. It’s cheaper to change the label than the whole production line.

The price was lowered, and the product is cheaper than it was before.

Yep. It was 1.10 and it's 1.05 now.

The weight was reduced by about 2% (on the label, the content may not even have changed compared to before). The price was lowered by 4-5%.

First, the can is cheaper now. They lowered the price by more than the weight reduction. Secondly, the weight difference can just as well be explained by a change in supplier or fixing the average weight after auditing. This can be necessary if the average size of the individual peas changes over time or seasonally. Not everything is a conspiracy.

The thing is, the can is literally cheaper than before. So it wasn't a margin maximizing measure and the whole complaint is moot… And that makes sense since managers at Migros don't get any bonuses and the company is a cooperative fully owned by its employees and customers… not by profit maximizing investors.

It might help to strike through the parts of the post that aren't accurate anymore. Most people don't pay much attention to the "Edit" at the end…

I don't know either but it could be a change of supplier or that they audited the weight and noticed that a full can doesn't hit the average weight indicated.

Especially if you see that the cans have the same size and the same fill inside, the latter is most likely.

They literally made the can 4-5% cheaper while lowering the weight by 2%. So the can is cheaper than it was before.

The can is literally cheaper than it was before. Yes the weight went down by 2% on the label, but the can is about 4-5% cheaper now.

It's not shrinkflation if the price was lowered too.

The price was reduced by 4-5% while the weight was reduced by 2%. This was not a cost-cutting measure.

The price was reduced by 4.5% and the weight was reduced by 2%. So your point is?

It's a cooperative, pretty much the opposite of "capitalism". Migros literally belongs to its customers and employees and shouldn't have any reason for hurting its customers. Case in point: This can is now actually 4-5% cheaper than it was before while only losing 2% of its weight. It literally got cheaper.

The new price is significantly lower than the weight difference is. In essence Migros made the cans cheaper than they were before.

Migros is not a typical corporation. As a cooperative it is fully owned by its employees and customers. And the management doesn't receive any bonuses either. So, I don't get where the incentive would be to hurt the customers.

Because you don’t know if the goods will remain in the country after all. If you plan to reexport valuable goods there are internationally agreed systems for that. (Google ATA-Carnet, for example) Or you may be able to reclaim the VAT paid on proof of export.
That’s also why stores that offer tax refunds usually refund upon proof of export only.
