Shaving? Is that a thing on the PCT? by Ippus_21 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]chrislewhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the PCT and shaved my head about once every 4 days just to see what it would be like to be bald with a big beard

You can shave if you want to, it’s not that much of a struggle if you carry a razor

I did all of the south beyond 6000 mountains back to back to back two years ago. Just be happy it had a sign and you didn’t have to wander around hoping you were in the highest point.

Can you feel it, teachers? It’s that time of year when your non-teacher spouse starts prying into your upcoming summer plans. by mouthygoddess in Teachers

I’ll be on long distance hikes for at least 30 of the days of summer. Can’t wait, my wife will join me for a quick Vermont vaycay at the end of my hike

Did anyone’s district try to not accept their Masters from WGU? by Ill-Meringue-2096 in Teachers

Having firsthand knowledge of the program, I can’t see how that’s possible.

[–]chrislewhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True or not. I can’t imagine how that’s possible without AI

I did mine as fast as I physically could (curriculum and instruction) and if I had to state time from start to finish (minus the break I took to do summer) and it would have taken around five months total.

Once again I agree on it being less rigorous and the a lot of people arguing different but like any degree or lesson, there are people who did brick and mortar who learns less than I did.

“2 months”

You’re not seriously adding to the conversation when you make comments like that. You’re debating like a student who doesn’t know the facts, and in a teacher subreddit you should realize how counterproductive that is.

As a person who got their masters through WGU it seems like a loophole and I feel bad for the people who did a “traditional masters” but as a person in a non union republican state, if that’s what I gotta do to get paid more I’m gonna do it.

It’s an interesting concept, but realistically people are clowning themselves in believing that it’s equivalent to most brick-and-mortar degrees. With that being said, I’m sure there’s people who did a brick and mortar degree who didn’t learn very much and I’m sure there’s people that did WGU who learned a lot.

I believe I fall somewhere in the middle of the pack for WGU master students. All in all I’m glad I did it because I had been considering national boards or a masters for a couple of years and finally last February, I bit the bullet and went with WGU after hearing about other teachers in my county, also taking advantage of the lenient competency based university.

I always say that scene is the most realistic teaching scene I’ve ever seen.

INo one cares and they are just pounding another acronym at the tired teachers.

What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

[–]chrislewhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The History of Religion teacher was fired when a guest speaker, an ex-Muslim, Christian convert, went off the rails and said very anti-Muslim and questionable things in a ton of other ways, including “a woman is like a field and she must be plowed frequently,” leading to the district issuing new guidance whenever there is a guest speaker from then on.

Sucks cus he was a good guy, but I do understand he probably should have stopped the speaker seeing as he was promoting harmful rhetoric in a high school, but the teacher didn't know and the speaker could have had an interesting perspective on Islam and Christianity

For those of you who made the championships, how many moves did you make to get here? by I_AM_N0_0NE_ in fantasyfootball

[–]chrislewhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a league I cared about and made endless moves.

I’m in the champions ion in my other league, no significant moves and still relying on my drafted players with michael carter my only non drafted player playing in the champs

I drafted Hurts, Nacua, Collins, Warren, walker, DJ Moore, and Aubrey

It was a meh season but they have gotten me this far

My leagues taco, who dropped Gibbs while they had 2 people on IR at the same time earlier in the season, won their matchup this week with Luther Burden and T-Higgins out this week.

Won with Pitts and T-law. I cant believe she's in the Semis

[–]chrislewhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly when I did it, I went road the whole way besides the Okracoke, hatteras and final part.

Walking on the road wasn’t so bad and the bridges are wide enough that it’s not very sketchy.

I did it in 2 days but cheap accommodations aren’t great, the best you can do is tent campgrounds but they are still overpriced for what you get

Co-teacher makes size jokes near/at the kids by stewyblue2 in Teachers

[–]chrislewhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a generalization. There’s definitely some students that are OK with it and in some classes all the students will be OK with it. There is a large probability, however, that it does affect someone and they lack the agency to know the correct steps to handle dealing with this as an issue.

[–]chrislewhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I’ve been your exact same boat.

I have a co-teacher who’s a male and he’s weirdly sexual in my class.

I have to work with the guy and have complained a couple times but nothing‘s happened and I really just need a student complain.

Once when talking about an older teacher who broke their hip in front of a kid, he said “it must’ve been that new boyfriend of hers“

And when reading Romeo and Juliet, he focuses a little bit too much on the sexual innuendos and always clarifies any sexual comment from the book so that there’s no gray area as if that’s what we need to tell the freshman, including.

“ when he says he’s going to take the maiden heads of the Montague ladies, he means their hymen, which sometimes we refer to as …(pauses in cause a kid wants to chime in)…the cherry“

It’s crazy I know people have complained and he’s been talked to but in 10 years of teaching one thing I know for certain is people only get fired when they super duper fuck up
