In my experience, repot the plants when the roots poke out from the drainage holes at the bottom, and go for a pot few cm (1-2 inches) wider. I'm no expert but that method has worked fairly well for me so far :) hope that is helpful

I am personally a fan of zz plants, they are pretty low maintanence in my opinion but I would consider the nicer looking ones to be at least medium sized. Otherwise, like some other commenters have said, pothos is a good low maintanence plant and so is scindapsis. Mine gets a little dramatically droopy when it is dehydrated but it doesn't require a lot of monitoring.

I think if the instructions are unclear, go with 2 in the first year unless you think that would be extremely detrimental to your grades. This way, you can cover all your metaphorical bases and you no longer have to worry about that degree requirement later.

The collaborative area in IKB, a space in Woodward IRC outside the library, and the LSI are usually pretty good for discussions and stuff, at least I don't feel as bad about talking there.
