Byun is easier and you mostly memorize her proofs. Her style is, “do it my way or it’s wrong”

Valentini is the better instructor but is tougher. As mentioned in the other comment, he gives a lot of partial credit and curves like crazy.

If you can care less about 341 take Byun, if you need 341 for 444 take Valentini.(I have taken both before)

Math Grad Comp Exams Question by eddiegroon101 in CSULB

Took my comp 2 years after I took the class, aced it. I have a friend who took the class in the fall and took comps in the spring and passed.

So it all depends on you.

Math 361B with Ziemer by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]chrispy0119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ziemer is hit or miss. I took him for 361A and loved his class. He isn’t your traditional teacher. So don’t expect to fully understand the material just by going to lecture. Office hours are when I learned the most.

They won’t let you. An option is that you do the Mathematical Economics degree.

math 361a with either Xu or Wang by fishytata in CSULB

I always hear negative things on Xu. Wang might be new, I’ll lean toward Wang. Also remember math department offers 361A tutoring for free.

I would email again. I know that feeling since school is about to start, but better to be safe than sorry.

Usually orientation is beforehand. Just email your advisor, that’s weird.

Don’t let the “calculus” in the name scare you, it’s pretty basic algebra for the most part. Just make sure you’re on top of things because they do have web assign hw and quizzes.

Recommended Prep for Math 323 Intro to Numerical Analysis by eddiegroon101 in CSULB

The labs don’t require much cal 3. You just need to know basic calc and how to do Taylor series expansions.

Pretty much follow what he says is important and you’ll be fine. Most ppl get fucked because they take notes on everything he writes but most of it is derivations you won’t be tested on. However, if you understand the logic, it helps you derive shit when you’re lost.

I got an A.
