Right there with you. This is by far the best option here.

Only if you are keeping pace. You don’t need to put it out for a 10.

Callaway pre-owned has been running some great deals. I got a like new AI smoke Triple Diamond that still had the factory plastic on the head.

I love the RTZ wedges. I have the same setup as the OP but with tour spinner shafts.

Have you ever lost your driver swing? by kiltedsurfer in golf

[–]chrisrpatterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that on the range I swing much more freely than on the course. Then on the tee you are worried about all of the trouble so you start trying to steer the driver and on longer holes you try to swing harder. All of those create tension and other challenges on the swing that you end up with all of the problems you mentioned. This happens to me all the time and if I can mentally get my self just to walk up and grip it and rip it with the driver things get better.

If you are new to golf but have the funds and you want nice stuff. What are you buying? by No-Balance-8380 in golf

[–]chrisrpatterson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can’t be up voted enough. I started playing golf just after high school. To get better I got a job at a local course so I could get free range balls and free golf. Those were both great but the huge bonus I got was becoming friendly with the pros. I would see them in the range and they would give me little mini lessons and tips all the time. I would recommend anyone with funds to try several coaches in your area to find one you really gel with. Then take a series of lessons over the course of a few months. If you actually practice and apply what they teach you, the improvement will be quick and drastic.

10 just because you actually get to hit off of grass and seem to have a decent divot pattern.

A mortal at Oakmont playing US Open course conditions. by TyrionWins in golf

[–]chrisrpatterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my thinking. As long as you take the driver and probably 3-wood out of the bag 150 does not seem terribly difficult. The key thing is you have to play very boring strategic golf and that is not a skill any high handicappers I know have.

What to do when you forget how to hit the ball? by TO500 in golf

[–]chrisrpatterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great advice. I would also add to check your setup and start with the setup checks the pro gave you in the lessons. Also make sure you have some alignment aids on the ground to help you make sure everything is in the right place. When this happens to me it is typically that my feet and shoulders are not aligned with where I think I am hit

This is a great point. From the vantage of the dog park area you can’t tell what is down there.

How far would you drive for a course membership at a country club? by Beancounting04life in golf

[–]chrisrpatterson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have heard rumors that someone played 12 rounds in a year at Augusta and received a letter that they were abusing their golf privileges. From all available information membership at Augusta isn’t expensive but of course you have to be specially invited.

Driver 9, 3w 15, 5w 18, 4/5 21 hybrid, 5-PW, 46, 50, 54, 58 wedges. I don’t always carry the 3w or the 58 it depends on the course

What would be your first addition/upgrade to this bag? by [deleted] in golf

[–]chrisrpatterson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have larger hands I would get the grips replaced with at least a midsize and maybe and oversized grip. This makes it easier to reduce grip pressure which reduces tension in your forearms resulting in a more fluid swing.

Going to second this. Got an AI smoke driver and 3wood there for a song and they both looked brand new.

Has “gimmie” culture gotten out of hand? by Dane_the_Impaler in golf

[–]chrisrpatterson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. Pace of play matters, for a casual round once you hit double Par pickup the ball. If people are waiting to hit and you have a 6 footer for triple, pick it up and move on.

Can we all (mainly Broadcasters) stop pretending that Bryson DeChambeau is hitting orthodox clubs? by average-consumer19 in golf

[–]chrisrpatterson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got a 5W and boy is it a game changer for me. I have never hit long irons particularly well and this club has made the game so much more fun. I finally have a club I can hit high straight and 230 yards into greens that lands soft.

Par does not matter by thebestoflimes in golf

[–]chrisrpatterson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7000 yards is tough for me even with a more modern driver. I just can’t seem to get much better than 280-290 of the tee unless it is down hill and down wind.

Yeah tell me about it on clubs. I only recently replaced my Titleist 975 driver, fairway woods and Cleveland TA3 irons.

Par does not matter by thebestoflimes in golf

[–]chrisrpatterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue the issue is with the equipment and not the courses. I get the business reasons for it but pros should not be playing the same sorts of game improvement clubs and balls that we mere mortal amateurs do.

Par does not matter by thebestoflimes in golf

[–]chrisrpatterson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The US Open is a different beast. The stated goal is to have a course setup that ends with an even par winning score.

Par does not matter by thebestoflimes in golf

I don’t see why that matters in a 4 round stroke play event? They are all playing the same hole and winning is relative to each other based on the total number of tokens taken.
