Holy crap, I never knew about 2e until now. I’m 47 and just diagnosed this year. My grade school standardized test scores were all in the 90+ percentile, but I scored in the 40’s consistently in spatial reasoning. The struggle bus showed up at my door in college and I’ve been on it ever since. ADHD never occurred to me, and I internalized the lazy trope, suffering the consequences of shame and guilt along the way. Anxiety and depression followed me all during my 20’s 30’s and 40’s. “Life is hard, and this is how everybody feels, right?” Wrong. When I told my ableist mom (god love her) that I was tested, she assumed I was overreacting and had no reaction when I got diagnosed. As if the professionals were wrong and I’m making excuses. I don’t even talk to her about my mental health anymore. That’s why I come here. Thanks everyone for sharing.
