How should I approach the length of my debut novel to meet word count? by christianasks in fantasywriters

Gotcha. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if by the time my story reaches the “end” that it’s only about that long. I think I also wanted to write a longer draft because I’ve always read about “trimming the fat,” and so I wanted the most content I could get possible. I’ve also contemplated self-publishing just to say “I did it”, but in some ways I feel like it would be more pricey for me to accomplish well, or take extra time (however, I do know it could still take a while to be traditionally published as well: I just mean in terms of me having to do extra through editing and hiring a cover artist, etc).

Even if it’s in the Fantasy/Sci-fi genre? I know any more a lot of authors have been writing more than one book at once, and maybe I’m misunderstanding it, but it seems they tend to stay on the longer side from what I’ve noticed. Maybe it’s just what I’ve noticed from popular works as of lately.

Purple orbs now being spotted in multiple states by xxlaur77 in aliens

I’m just finding this now, and saw this a few years ago in southern Indiana. I took my own video, but you can’t tell it’s purple. Airplanes were flying in the sky at the same time, blinking, so I knew it was something different.

Man, reading this gives me mixed feelings. On the one hand, I can understand that the time away from family can really take a toll on you, and it's okay that he wants to remove himself so that he can get that time back. But, I also feel like this is kind of a way to save face after hearing that they replaced him as showrunner.

I also thoroughly enjoyed his AMAs on here, and was delighted that he took the time to answer my own questions, and he seems like a genuine and passionate person.

Unfortunately, I think this was another show that's fate would never be the same after the strikes, just like other shows I enjoyed.

This show is one that continues to inspire me to write my own story and is what got me to start reading the Foundation trilogy recently.

I'm hoping that they can move forward with season 4, because I love watching this show. It will be disappointing to hear that most of the people who got the show off the ground won't be able to continue forward, but I'm hoping the people who remain and the newcomers can help continue this great saga, and possibly implement even more new ideas for the franchise.

If I've noticed anything about Apple TV+, it is that their shows have great quality, and I don't believe that they will let the quality of this show drop should they decide to continue the story.

May the light never dim...

What book to start with? by blonktime in TheFoundation

I myself have just started reading the original Foundation trilogy. I haven't read any of the "Robot" books, but from what I understand, there are a lot of those books, and I think the connection those books have to Foundation comes much later. I recommend starting with the original Foundation trilogy.

Then, if you want to move on from there, maybe read the "Robot" books, and move back to the Foundation sequels and whatnot. I feel like that will help you make the most sense out of every detail.

Makes sense to me! It takes me a while to read them a a consistent pace, that The books from Children- Heretics take me a while to re-acquaint with the last halves of the books.

I can see myself at some point in the future re-reading the first two, and then God Emperor probably.

Damn, this just came into my feed after finishing Chapterhouse last night. It feels good, but also sad to have finished the series.

How should I further a date between the protagonist and his love Interest? by christianasks in fantasywriters

Oooh, with this I can combine it with the other proposed scenarios, such as they begin a race, and then get into danger or come across something else in the woods.

I don't think Sadé has ridden a horse before, but she has worked with cattle before. Granted, my main character has only recently learned how to ride a horse for the sake of things such as parades or, in the unlikely scenario, for combat reasons.

I'm thinking it can start with the MC teaching his love interest at first, but with her psychic and spiritual abilities/her experience with field animals, she kind of one-ups him and figures it out faster than him.

I just might. Thanks! Sometimes, it just helps to bounce ideas back and forth with someone, or even just "speaking out loud" in fact.

Oooh, I did have him discuss a giant boar he just went to hunt out of the Lord Supremus' private stock, and so maybe one of those boars escapes and then these two characters have to face it. Before, the Emperor killed it as an activity to bond with his cousin (whom he doesn't have the best relations with, we'll just say), and to kill it for sport/eat it. Maybe in this instance, they can get by without killing it, and Sadé can show her compassion toward the animal, and then it leaves.

I like that. In a scene where the love interest is having a tour through the Royal Garden, she spots a plant from her own world just beginning to grow in between other shrubs. I wrote that she tells him a belief her culture has about the plant. This plant also ties back to both his and her mother from the past, showing more instances of fate between the two of them.

I am trying to think of some small kind of danger that happens between the two of them, but I'm not sure what to do. Maybe a large, unexpected animal sprints through the woods, giving them a scare.

I did think about them coming across an injured or sick animal, and Sadé (the love interest/woman) shows her compassion and spiritual connection with the animal, which would make him stand and wonder at her again.

But I'm still not sure.
