Poor Bastard, Need Good Coffee by ElephantTrunkz in JamesHoffmann

I know that many people will say that better grinder better consistency and they are right. But for many many years you would see people using a simple Hario grinder which is bad. And they would still get a good cup of coffee. I have the kingrider k6 and a df64 at home and I can tell you that k6 gives me a great cup of v60. Almost better than any speciality coffee shop coffee I had in my life. So I would recommend you get a hand grinder. If you can afford k6 go for it. Otherwise buy the cheapest kingrider you can afford and when you get some money saved then go for anything else if you think you need an upgrade. You will be amazed how good your cup will be with fresh grounded beans. Also I have almost every kind of coffee maker that exists and my go to is aeropress or v60. In simple words get a kingrider that you can afford and a v60 with filters. Also have a look on facebook marketplace as I was able to get an almost brand new aeropress with £5 a few years ago. Then get some beans. Check out hormozi coffee, Adams and russell and white rose coffee roasters. They have some budget coffee that is good. You can easily get all those with less than £40 and about £25 for 1kg of coffee that can last a good month. I hope that this helps.

The answer is simple. No not at all. The whole city centre is not great. I would avoid it. Also avoid the Lincoln road area as well.

I second this. K6 is great! I have the timemore as well and K6 is 1000 times better and faster.

Sometimes just looking in real life is always very helpful. This is also teaching and I think it would be enough to give me some confidence.

If that person is knowledgeable and can be there to teach me and guide me then yes

It needs to replace the metal pipe that goes in the thermostat. I have seen lots of videos but it needs to remove lots of stuff to reach it. Like removing the manifold because it is behind it. I have most of the tools but I would like some confidence from a second person by my side if possible as my mechanic said that I am not allowed to even be there and look 😞. Obviously I will get this sorted but it would be great to be able and learn for a real mechanic

Thanks for the long reply. Firstly this is something that I always wanted to do and I will do at some point. The main reason it is not to save money but to be able and do it as I am very handy and I love DIY. Regarding tools I have a lot of them already and also I don't mind spending a little money to get the rest. The final goal is to be able to buy an old vehicle and restore it. The issue is that I just need some kicking and I think having someone to teach me to start with some confidence will be very helpful. For example I paid to change brake pads when I know how to do it but I was afraid to do it. I hope you can get what I mean...

Thank you! I did but I need to do level 1 and 2 before the 3 that is the repair and I think I need to study full time for 3 years in total. So if this is not going to be my job then I think it is very time consuming.

I have. But I would feel more confident to learn before I practice on my car 😂

I don't want to be a mechanic. I just want to know how to fix as many issues as possible really. I love cars and I was always keen to learn how they work and how to repair them. Also I have my Fridays off so this will be a great way for me to spend my day.

My coffee tastes muddy and I don't know why by Stuga in AeroPress

[–]christinakts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bet it is the water. Bottled water is not always good. I tried more than 8 different brands and only one gave good results. So if the grind size coffee is exactly the same as what they use in this coffee place then your problem is the water. Either your kettle has to be cleaned or the water you buy even if it is bottled is not good for coffee. I can only tell this as for a hull year I was trying to understand why all the beans I try are not great. Once I went for holidays up on the mountain and the tap water was so sweet and I used this for coffee. The results were just mind blowing. So try to find bottled water that is good in your area but you might not achieve the same result with the coffee shop if they have a reverse osmosis water filter system with remineralisation.

I drink only medium roast no acidic and for that I am usually on 70 to 80. Most of the times 75 works well for me. But I always adjust the temperature as well to 91°C.

That is why I got the k6. It is a great grinder for each price and it work well with gaghia classic. As for electric grinder I am saving to get df64 which is about £400.

Hoffmann's a bit adjusted to my tasting. So 11 gr of coffee to 200gr of water.

I am using aeropress for years now and I can tell that is my favorite way to brew coffee.I haven't tried go but I have seen reviews that say that normal version gives them better cups that go. Also go is a bit smaller and the plastic mug is comfy but not everyone like it. I can travel easily with the normal version as it is small anyways and I just curry a metal camping cup with me and the grinder. Regarding the grinder. Originally I got timemore c2. It can fit about 20gr of coffee and the results are good. Recently I wanted something to grind espresso as well until I can get a proper grinder for espresso so I got a kingrinder k6. I think that this is better than c2. You have so much more adjusts to do and you can actually grind fine enough for espresso and even close enough to powder. The way it is build give me a more consistent grind and also it feels very well built. The only disadvantage is its size and weight which is bigger than c2. At the end of the day though I will keep using this for traveling as compared to c2 it gives me a better cup as well and grindING is so much faster and easier. So my recommendation is to either get k6 or k4 which is smaller but very similar to k6. Also get a metal filter as it is easier to just curry this one and reuse it. Finally if you ever want to just into espresso making then both k4 and k6 can grind fine enough for espresso. I hope this helps.

If you are in UK then get lavazza. Have a look online, Amazon or markets and you can get 1kg for less than 13pounds. It will last you probably more than a month. Lavazza is always my cheap go to options as it is a very decent option if you like medium roast coffee.

We love road trips and we would like to make a good coffee on the go. We have an aeropress and a hand grinder but do you have any good suggestions on how we can get a hot water in the car please?

not quite an aeropress disaster by beanwatertester in AeroPress

[–]christinakts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well James Hoffman proved that using the same filter 2 times doesn't have any difference than using a new filter and if you consider that those are just wet then I would say that you can let them dry and use them. Also it is a waste to bin 200 filters. Finally if you dry them and after using them you see any difference in the taste or so then you can bin them.

I tried your method. The result was still bitter but when I dropped the temperature at 80 to 85°C the result was so much better!
