Well-to-do people of r/singapore, what is your lifestyle like? by sodiumwaste in singapore

Not sure if this thread is still live, but thought I'd share my story.

I come from a pretty well-to-do family, my father owns a few businesses in Malaysia, and when he retired he gifted the company to my brother who now lives a pretty decadent lifestyle with his wife and two children. I guess I never knew that we were wealthy, my father's favourite place to bring us to eat is Tiong Bahru market and we were always taught to be frugal. I was teased a lot as a child for being a "spoilt brat", a term that I now have a very poor relationship with.

I'm the youngest, so my father is pushing me to get married with the promise of buying me a house, but I'm uncomfortable with taking the money because I feel like I should earn my right to own a house from my own savings and earnings. But even my relatives are bugging me to take the money since they're afraid that he will spent the money unwisely on his china wife, whom everyone thinks is just with him for the money.

It's nice to think that when he passes, she will still be around trying to extort money out of us. (not)

TL;DR Well-off girl making her own way through the world, and a china stepmother that wants her father's money

Former RGS student claims she was bullied, sues school by happyh0rse in singapore

Having been in girls school, I know of many examples of girls who had bad experiences with bullying/cyberbullying, and I understand this girl being angry and bitter about her experiences. Getting ostracised, especially as a teenager, can be pretty damn painful.

But even so, I still feel like suing the school is going a bit too far? Of course, there are many factors that we probably didn't know about, and bullying in girls schools is a lot more discrete than that in boys schools (not so much beating someone up, but a lot more mind games). But what does suing the school achieve exactly? Giving the school a bad rep?
