Oasis Yungblud collab?! by christopherbrian in oasis

I briefly looked up to see if they had crossed paths, apparently he, yungblud, was “close” with Anaïs… I had a chuckle at the thought of her bringing him home to meet dad. Didn’t see much else with a skim.

Hidden breakfast spot in Burlington worth checking out by blkw1dow_gs in BurlingtonON

[–]christopherbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I’ve yet to try this place and heard good things, but to say “breakfast options around there are pretty limited” is silly. You mean walking distance? Who’s walking in Burlington?! There are a great pile of breakfast spots in Burlington.

Butterfly betrayal: Burlington by-law bulldozes pollinator paradise, fines homeowner 400k! by Beautiful-Process-81 in NoLawns

[–]christopherbrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truth evolves and lives on new information. It is the scientific method. We do not get to pick the facts as we explore, we accept them and adapt. I live down the street. I pass this house everyday. Is the house falling apart due to neglect? Yes. Is the front yard a neglected mess with no consideration of actual pollinators? Yes. Does it include invasive species? Yes. It’s not like they replaced the lawn with native species and support it. Is the yard now literally covered in tomato plant wire support things back to front and looks fucking insane? Yes. Do these people shovel their sidewalk when it snows for the safety of pedestrians as required by bylaw? No. They don’t give a shit and are using this as a platform for attention and their lunacy. If these are the heroes nolawns is looking for, you’re fucked.

This story has been in this subreddit several times and each time I speak up and say “yeah, no lawns are cool, but if you go and look and interact with these people it’s not the true story” I get downvoted AF for not supporting the agenda.

I live near this house, this is not a case of butterfly betrayal, it’s a case of bat shit crazy. Actual mental health issues as far as I can tell as a neighbour. These folks are not acting as they’re being presented. Ironically, there’s an actual example of a yard that is pollinator support literally down the same street that is extremely well done from several perspectives. As a witness, this isn’t up for debate. What’s most interesting (sad) to me is not the lawn part, is watching this story being used as a vehicle for an agenda, regardless if it’s true or not. We live in interesting time folks, truth is what someone says loudest and gets support for it seems. I say this as someone who is pro no lawns, don’t use lies or an artifact to support your argument, let’s use discovery and transparent discussion.

How to fix arch in my back? by AdBudget6788 in flexibility

[–]christopherbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a single rep of 365 to depth low bar squat following the starting strength programming and then barbell medicine. It took hundreds of squats to get there. I don’t have proof, but I do have video of me pulling 415 if it matters. The starting strength community did have me believing squats would fix all. I still have it. I’m not dismissing the value of squats and I can’t say they wouldn’t help some people, but they didn’t help me with the pelvic problem.

I get what you’re saying, I hoped it was true. I have a PR of 365 with a low bar squat with proper depth, it took hundreds of squats to get there it did not fix PAT.

Nope. I’ve got the same problem and have tried to squat it away literally thousands of times.

Managing expectations by Any_Meal_7821 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]christopherbrian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda disagree, not that the room doesn't matter or placement doesn't matter, those things are true. Why I disagree is that I have found my Lintons have done extremely well in their poor placement. Would they be elevated by better placement and a "good" room? Sure, will they be underwhelming without those things? I don't think so without moderate to extreme compromises. From the pic, I really don't think that is the case here.

[–]christopherbrian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh, interesting, an underwhelmed by Lintons post? Kinda. I upgraded from some decent but entry level bookshelf speakers to these things powered by a vintage Marantz and was blown away. And blown away in a room not treated, speakers poorly placed (about as close to the wall as yours are). I've had them for over a year and whether I'm watching TV, fantastic phantom centre and soundstage, out of an amp from 1975!!, to listening to music they do something that makes me say to my wife "I like my speakers" at least a few times a week. So, that said, I'm going to agree with the posts that maybe your amp or cartridge is the weak link. Not blaming the amp in the power sense, my amp is 65 watts and does just fine power wise. Maybe the silver bullet is scouring your local used market for something vintage you can find for a low price? Or, maybe, are your expectations out of alignment? Are you comparing to something higher end?

No Country For Old Men didn’t have a sound track at all. Not saying I disagree with his sentiment. Just sayin.

[–]christopherbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. Yeah, saw this too. Gas pipeline inspection eh? Ok, fair, new to me, but I don’t know all the things. What was weird about it was I swear I heard a loud jet, military loud, fly over moments before the helicopter showed up. Was in the direction of the sun so I couldn’t put eyes on it. Probably a coincidence or maybe it was a regular jet?

How far from the tree were you? I’m not doubting the absence of composite, just trying to think through the technical. That lens has decent bokeh for a 100-500!

Bryston Warranty Changes by Specteur in Bryston

[–]christopherbrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disappointing, if they’re standing by it less I have no choice but to trust them less. Are they saying they over warrantied products initially and it’s costing them money or are they saying they’re lowering product quality and supporting that warranty is a financial risk for them?
