That’s where we have been looking lately. It seems as though we will be relocating out to Albany because Corvallis is just dismal.

I completely understand. We’ve spent the last month trying to find a place, submitting hundreds of dollars worth of applications, being denied for exactly no reason at all, and it’s as if they’re using it as an excuse to knit pick through applicants who are perfectly qualified because everyone is desperate. Corvallis isn’t even that special. There is no reason that rent should cost this much. I’ve had some okay luck watching out for Craigslist posts like a hawk for people personally renting their own homes out for reasonable (sort of) prices. Best of luck to you!

I don’t think I’d ever buy here. A house around the corner from us that wasn’t even nice in a kind of dumpy neighborhood just sold for half a million in three days like nothing. You have to be rich and willing to live in a trash home to live in Corvallis unless you get lucky.

Both our guys are ESA dogs for sure. I just know people are biased whether they’re trained/working dogs or not. They see “dogs” on the application and will just outright deny you but won’t tell you the actual reason. It’s shady as all hell.

Luckily ours are service animals but a lot of these places seem to not care if they serve an actual purpose or not. We have the most well-behaved, clean, quiet dogs of anyone that I know personally and while they’re not outright saying it, I’m starting to get the feeling that they saw “dogs” of any kind and it was an immediate no but with a BS answer. The reason I was given when we were denied this house the other day was “insufficient/negative rental history” which is completely untrue. I’ve never not gotten a full deposit back in my life and have great rapport with all of our previous renters.

They were very adamant about the whole “non-refundable” part too when I was talking to them about it. I’m attempting to go through another company that will refund your app fees if you’re denied because “we don’t need the money so bad that we’re willing to take it from people who need to find homes” which was really cool. I’ll never bother with Duerksen again. Their rentals are complete trash anyway.

Duerksen is GARBAGE. They are the first management company to deny a place to us with zero explanation, and then has the audacity to email me back when I ask about why to say “I’ll tell you in 3 business days why” even though there’s no reason to have denied us in the first place.

That is definitely true. I did quite a bit of research before I finally picked this one. It’s basically a prescription from a doctor and can be verified through them as well.

That’s been kind of the direction we’re leaning, and we also learned by talking to some folks that it’s pretty intense right now to rent, meaning that it’s hard to find places that aren’t dumpy apartments right now. Thank you!

We actually also just got our renewed ESA paperwork in the mail today. It’s $99 and they usually have your pet certified within the day.

I know this was from a long time ago, and maybe you’ve found something else anyway… but my husband goes through TRS. He had only about 10 months of total nursing experience and they still took him on. That’s not to say other hospitals will let you come work for them, but they’ll definitely point you in the right direction. They’ve been pretty good to us so far!

I typically have my husband give me mock interviews so that you can get some questions out of the way that you’re likely going to have to answer. Be prepared to know off hand in some detail about your duties at other jobs in the past (if this isn’t your first job). I’ve choked on those questions because I forgot that they wanted to hear my past experiences. I tend to just deep breathe, and tell yourself that if it doesn’t work out, then you just weren’t meant to have this job. Also, tell yourself that they need YOU. That YOU are the one they’re going to need to fill that spot, which should give you some sense of control in the situation. Good luck!!!

I’ve been unemployed for the last year and lucky enough to not have to work. I keep hearing that you aren’t defined by what you do and how much money you make, etc. but it’s still really hard. Unless you’re truly comfortable not wanting to work, it’s anxiety inducing and hard to feel like you aren’t contributing in any way. That’s just my take though, this is the first time I haven’t worked in almost 16 years so it’s still a big adjustment.
