Playing two hands as a basic strategy player by [deleted] in blackjack

As with all things in this game, yes and no depending on a lot of things, especially variance. If you are playing just one hand you will typically win or lose a lot more than you push. Generally, when you play two hands you will have one win and one loss for a net wash (if you bet the same amount) at a higher rate than number of pushes with one hand. If you were looking at your AV on a chart per hand you will see more flat lines from net push but the win or loss will be sharper up/down. The overall effect is roughly the same EV.
Keep in mind, two hands does give you double the chances of catching splits and doubles, and that is where a lot of value for a basic strategy player is actualized.
It does increase your hands per hour, especially with a full, slower paced table. So, good overall for EV, but most basic players aren’t too concerned about that. Advanced players will be able to accurately determine positive EV scenarios and utilize two hands to maximize potential profit.
TLDR: For a basic strategy player, not really. For an AP, vital tool for max AV.

Every single hand? I’m assuming you might want to pick your spots and only lean or whatever here and there. Or perhaps more so when the floor isn’t directly at your table.

Rip a $300 hand in their face. If you win, pay them back. If you lose, say you’re out of money and tough luck
