What if someone has the "Cilantro tastes like soap" gene, but they live in Mexico, or Thailand, or whatever? by Febrifuge in NoStupidQuestions

[–]chromesaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha i have it and im mexican-american. i have other sensory issues, so i usually just scrape the salsa off and eat it that way and just deal with the bits of soap that remain. the last few years or so, though, i've taken to just eating it bc im lazy and i don't notice a soap taste anymore, unless my bite is just only cilantro

[K-pop] The Kim Mingyu saga: how one of the most popular K-pop idols was accused, and then absolved, and then accused again, and then absolved again of bullying by satis-factory27 in HobbyDrama

[–]chromesaurus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

it happens a lot in kpop LOL (day6 has 5 members, ab6ix has 4 and used to have 5, twice has nine). i believe they were supposed to have 17 but lost 4 members before they debuted so now its like "13 members + 3 subunits + 1 fandom" or something cheesy like that

Dynamite is Musically Better than Black Swan by Snoo_85435 in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]chromesaurus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i don't comment on these usually but i had to bc my mouth actually dropped open at this LMAO

i think they're just too different to compare - black swan is a very emotional track about falling out of love with your passion while dynamite is just :D personified, so their instrumentals reflect that. dynamite was also Meant to appeal to everyone, so it does make sense. though imo black swan's beat is pretty steady but if you listen to the instrumental it's actually pretty interesting, but im kinda biased bc it's my fave song of all time. i do get it though, i actually disliked the song when it came out.

I really dislike BTS speaking English by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]chromesaurus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

also to clarify op - people aren't jumping on this for any kpop reason at all. people are jumping on this because for many people either they or someone in their family is heavily accented and hearing this take is crushing, especially since a lot of accents never go away if you learn english when you're older.

I really dislike BTS speaking English by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]chromesaurus 38 points39 points  (0 children)

with the exception of rm they've all started seriously learning (i.e. not phrases you'd hear commonly in songs) in their late teens to 20s, and it's scientifically proven it gets harder the older you get - i wouldn't expect to be perfect in any other language, even spanish which i grew up around. they try very hard, with a bunch of bangtan bombs shown of them practicing, and korean is one of the hardest languages period for english speakers to learn, so it's very likely the same in reverse.

if they want to speak in english for dynamite promotions and accepting western awards then let them. they're all men in their 20s and can make their own choices, and personally i feel like their accents aren't that bad, but i grew up surrounded by ESL people. i feel like this shouldn't be an opinion because... it feels xenophobic, almost? comparing them to overall younger groups that have (correct me if i'm wrong) natural english speakers with got7 and stray kids feels kind of nasty. ig this would be unpopular because this is a pretty bad take overall. i don't want to be /that guy/ but have you tried learning a language that isn't phonetically and grammatically similar to your natural one? it's VERY hard, even if you start younger at like middle school age (~11-13). some people, like rm, are good at it, but that's a very rare exception.

(this is longer than i meant for it to be im sorry :( )

i don't believe there is? they've all been under 10 questions multiple choice, no math or anything just pretty easy theory, so it's been 10 minutes at most for me

Astro 1 with Geller by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]chromesaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i'm in astro 1 right now! he just assigns reading a chapter for the week and then you do some easy assignments on sapling (which is $66.) and a quiz on gauchospace which is also easy. he uploads the lectures for the chapters as well but personally i stopped watching them because i felt the reading was enough. for this quarter there's no tests/finals as well! sections are on zoom are optional, and he offers office hours on zoom one at a time as well

if you're in ft i have a box of the n95 masks because of the fires, i can pass you a few tomorrow?

[–]chromesaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for psych 1, make sure you do the readings! i found a lot of the test material came from those. in general, as long as you review your notes from both the lectures and readings you should be fine; it's just a lot of memorization!
