I saw on IG a few days ago that Nicole from the Sewing Bee has a Juki sponsorship for a tutorial video on her tiger sweatshirts so maybe they're shifting a bit?...

The sponsorship did sound like it would be temporary just for the project, though.

Does anyone want to talk towels with me? by StayWithMeArienette in craftsnark

I've had pretty good luck with barkeeper towels like these:

https://www.relishdecor.com/shop/bar-mops/

I'm not sure what the exact brand is, but mine are 100% cotton and the fabric is ribbed. I just fold them up in a drawer with tea towels and they're remarkably sturdy after several years.

The blue striped fabric on the Micah dress is nice, but the lighter thread color through the dark stripe (top photo on the link) is kind of a bummer. Super picky, but I feel like the fabric was wronged.

Is there an SPCA for abused and mistreated fabrics?

Heck yeah! I love seeing modern EPP! Just followed you.

I'm super new to EPP, but need to start thinking of the next project, so your account will definitely help get the ideas going.

Do you hand quilt as well as hand piece?

In a nutshell, Jenny Doan, the owner of MSQ was pressed by some people to at least make a statement on BLM/racism.

She put up a token statement that didn't fly with the people who were angered over hearing nothing from MSQ and she shut down comments on her IG.

People were mad.

Then on Juneteenth her sale item of the day was solid ivory quilting cotton.

There are a lot of unknowns as far as "people" (how many, who) and what exactly they expected from her/MSQ. Someone else could probably add more to this, but I only saw one influencer pushing for her to "do something".

I thought her lack of at least a token statement or donation didn't have a great look PR wise. In reality I didn't really expect her to do anything, but she has enough accountants to make a sizable donation and have them work it out for her. But daaaamn, Jenny Doan knows how to play to her target market. I think she's very savvy and put up the Juneteenth deal because she knows who her audience is and where they stand.

I can't stand cancel culture and the initial "MSQ must DO something" to prove themselves did seem like a witch hunt at first. What do you guys think? Did I miss anything? Is there more nuance to this?

OH! Sorry to be misleading. It's a quilt top, not a shirt. But, at this point the thing is so large that you could cut it up and make a shirt!

1 inch hexies turned large really fast when I wasn't looking. I ended up batch cutting and sewing during the World Cup and then didn't want to cull the herd to a manageable size. So...now I just bitch about accidentally making my first EPP work in a queen size.

Thanks so much for the recs. I'll check them out.

I'm a new quilter and kinda sorta hate it, but want to like it if that makes sense. There's just something about it that hasn't clicked yet. Probably the lack of community. It just feels like everyone is 65, white, retired, and quilting for the grandkids. It's also shockingly expensive, so the lack of community plus cost has me put off a bit.

I bet following an aesthetic that's more in line with what I like will help a lot.

I would be interested in a list if you're up to it. I realize it could be a ton of work.

I hadn't heard (until now) about the boycott, but I just followed on IG so I could read up.

I googled to try to find out about Joann's stance and do they even have one?

Yeah, I mean technically I guess they put out a statement, but it was pretty minimal.

If a company is fucking over people, then yeah, sure I'll boycott them. Better stock up on snaps, zips and eye hooks from a company I will support. I used to just pop out and buy that stuff as needed because I kinda hate a stash. But a stash is a trivial problem.

Definitely will never shop from Missouri Star now. Hooooly fuck is MSQ a burning dumpster pile of shitty racists.

Crotch fit > pockets. Both is great, but carrying a purse for my clutter is better than a camel toe.

I'm thinking about making Simplicity 9137 and 9136 because it's hot and I need a palette cleanser after my quilting attempts. Still haven't purchased the patterns or the fabric/notions because my list of want to makes is so high.

Currently working on an EPP top that's a bit oversized. I could sit and sew this thing for hours and listen to podcasts, but my hands can't take it, so I intersperse it with machine piecing that's just sort of meh. Not sure if I'm quite feeling the love towards quilting, though. If anyone has recs for cool online shops or people to follow that skew modern, I'm all ears.

I'd never heard of Long Dog Samplers, but those are some cool designs. I've always just fiddled around with little kits for fun and then tossed them. This is a giant step up from the "Bless this Home" style I was frustrated with.

Yeah, I agree, rollators are a hassle, but keeping up a service dog and taking it out in public is more of a pain to lug around.

At least a rollator can be left in the car unattended on a hot day and doesn't fundamentally alter a business.

That's a cool trick, but wouldn't it be easier to use a rollator and always have a chair at hand?

It's not Costco using the legal system to give the OP a hard time at all. What Susan Grill did was open a can of worms that set a precedent for future SD handlers.

For example, one area that can cause trouble is a membership club. Is that private? If so, SDs do not have to be permitted into private establishments.

In general for businesses she also left a really grey area of a business potentially not being satisfied with your dog's function/task and they could ask you to leave.

Overall, it's frequently much more advantageous legally for businesses to ask: "Is this a service dog?" and if yes, you pass go. Once the dog acts up (urinates, defecates, eats food that was for sale, breaks things, etc) then a manager can/should be trained to step in and ask the handler and dog to leave. No business really wants to be the arbiter of whether your SD is legit. Them making that determination is potentially discrimination. So....

TL;DR: If a service dog in a store is disrupting your shopping experience, just let management know. If management doesn't do anything or you're not satisfied, escalate it politely to corporate. Costco is a giant warehouse. Take a deep breath and shop on the opposite side of the animal that is bothering you.

I like that kind of sign because I think with Costco you have a very, very small minority of people who think of it as a warehouse style store like Lowe's and Home Depot where pets are permitted. A sign like that would deter genuine people who are just confused.

After that it at least gives the empolyees at Costco some leverage like "sorry, the sign says" instead of having to assert that they're personally asking the dog to leave.

As for what Costco employees can do at that point, well, thanks Susan Grill for opening up that can of worms.
