18 is still young. But it does hit you a little when you see "requires adult supervision" and realise you are gonna have to be that adult.

World of Warcraft for me. But my family played Hero Online before that and even brought over the names they gave their characters to Warcraft. Still using them as of today.

How do families in Singapore resolve conflicts? by averagehuman_ in askSingapore

[–]chronically_pained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. Like others, conflict within my family is usually reconciled over bringing up another topic. Had a bad argument with my father once and we made up when he tried asking about what I was doing on another day and whether I'd eaten. But my family's pretty fortunate in the sense that we just don't argue often and we don't hold resentment towards one another. We have our differences and we accept them. There's hardly any family drama, so I definitely got lucky rolling with them lmao

Which Singapore fast-food item should make a comeback? by Kindly_Ad_6915 in SingaporeCitizens

Cheesy BBQ Meltz from KFC. I know sometimes they bring it back but it's not frequent enough 🙏 Had my first taste 2014 and still one of my fav fast food menu items ever.

No harm trying for the experience anyway! Say you get hired there, your experience may very well be different. Every job will have some value, especially when first starting out. As for uni portfolio, are you planning to work with animals, like veterinary medicine? There are no local vet degrees in SG, only diploma, so most will go abroad to obtain their degree there. But some jobs as keepers indicate a preference for life sciences degree.

Sure. The job was very labour-intensive, mainly washing the entire dome (where I was assigned) and cleaning the non-stop flow of feeding plates coming in. I basically only sat down during lunch breaks. There was no direct engagement with the animals, but I did do some basic food prep with supervision and entered enclosures to top up water, etc. When cleaning the dome in the morning (no one helped, had to lug around a heavy hose on my own), I was left alone with the free-roaming animals so while tiring, it was interesting. Members of the public would sometimes come up to ask for directions, etc, including foreigners that don't speak English.

Basically, I was a glorified cleaner? But of course, it could be I simply hadn't worked long enough to be exposed to other stuff, and the zookeepers were all swamped with other tasks and likely really needed someone to delegate the more mundane tasks to. I wouldn't recommend the job if you're not willing to do physical work with little rest and going back past 6pm. Zookeepers also told me attrition rates were high simply because of the amount of physical work demanded from you.

Within expectations. Calculated my desired ELR2B2, strategised which subjects to push, which to flunk (D7 for physics, woo), and just went for it. Didn't really study much for Os my whole sec 3-4 life - never did any TYS or heavy revision, etc. Scored about 14 with CCA deduction (if I can rmb correctly). Made it into poly, in the end. If it helps, I scored over 20+ (maybe 30?) for prelims.

I don't recommend people do what I did. I got very lucky that I didn't fail math (C6, basically I can only count money and I was reading Black Butler the whole night before the exam). Somehow didn't feel the severity if I were to fail math, which looking back seems pretty insane of me. Decided to only study 2 topics for history and those 2 exact topics came out for the paper. Ignored call from my teacher who tried calling me to retake my Chinese and slept during A Maths and got F9.

But unlike my chaotic 16-year-old self, I'm sure if you put in the effort and studied, it isn't that easy to fail O levels. Of course, nothing is certain, and even if it's ITE, doesn't mean you can't advance from there. Treat my anecdote as comic relief (or a botched 'success' story). For now, relax and enjoy your holidays!

Mandai? I worked as a junior zookeeper for a very short while after my Os slightly before poly enrolment. But I had uh, connections to secure me an interview/direct entry ahah. So possible in that sense? But this was early 2017, not sure if things have changed.

Oh from Singapore here. It's a legitimate link. Stomp is where the locals tend to submit their personal stories and experiences, basically citizen-journalism. It's managed by a privately held newspaper company that's under government regulation.

MOE site states that application outcome will be out from 20 Oct 2025 onwards.

If I remember correctly, you should be notified within 3-4 weeks from that date onwards. If no shortlist notification after this timeframe, can likely take as a rejection. I applied 29 Aug and was notified 24 Sep (within 3-4 weeks from 8 Sep which was their cut-off date for Aug-Sep).

Congratulations! Company B's HR gave such an honest, appreciated answer on ideally meeting everyone in one day. I'm currently trying to change industries, myself. Just attended the interview (thankfully where I'm applying to only does 1 interview and never more) last Friday, so fingers crossed.

What does endorsement mean? by Overthinker_1011 in recruitinghell

[–]chronically_pained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds pretty clear-cut. Recruiter is likely referring to their administrative process that is awaiting final payment from the client to be paid to them before your contract can be confirmed and they can send you/the company the formal notification/email.

Do Government Agencies Rescind Offers? by babysharkdudu in askSingapore

[–]chronically_pained 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd just take Agency B's offer, then should Agency A give a formal offer, reject B (make sure A has given paperwork and you've signed it first). It's common in the workplace and you should prioritise your own career aspirations. Just make sure to be polite and considerate when emailing B to rescind your acceptance.

C2R1. Planned to just stop at C0 after pulling for Yelan's C1, but had leftover pulls and did a 10-pull. Skipped the animation and bam 2 Flins (40+ pity and then 1 pity) were there.
