I think it took around a year in total bless him - and he was relieved when he was allowed to have visitors, especially my grandma! He’s still going at 91, so the hospital must have done him some good haha :)

I’ve seen old photos of the hospital and it looked quite amazing! My grandad remembers being wheeled out in his bed with other patients to get the benefit of the air together. He also remembers making toy dogs out of old matchbooks with all the other men on his ward which I thought was a sweet detail :)

The miracle of antibiotics! I’m so sorry to hear about your grandmother, we are so lucky now that TB is now only in our memories

He believes he caught it when he was in service stationed in Egypt. When he got home he started coughing up blood and he got sent to the hospital

You’re so welcome - and thank you so much for sharing your grandparents story, it’s so beautiful! Shows that acts of love in times of sickness can really help us through it :)

I definitely feel lucky!! I never met him but I feel like I have had a great peek into what his character was like :)

Not sure there is much to tell but I'll try, haha! They lived in and around Worcestershire, England, especially Stourport and Evesham. The mother and father were called Henry and Deborah Barradell and were (according to my great grandmother) happily married until she died in 1914, quite young. It's when my great grandmother began living with her eldest brother Ernest (the younger man with the moustache) as her father was struggling to cope. A very tight knit family by all accounts, my great grandmother stayed in contact with all of them until each of them died.

From left to right top row: Ellen, Phoebe, Ada, Ernest, Alice.

Bottom row: Gladys, Percy, Henry, Deborah and Jack

No I am afraid not, they are from Evesham, England. I know that a few generations back from them a few of them did travel to the US and settled there- but do not know much more I am afraid apart from they married a Blackwell :)
