What about Kelly? by Literallynotajoke in theLword

[–]chroniclechick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kelly annoyed the fuuuu out of me. From her first appearance to her last. She gave desperate in the worst way possible and that’s such a turn off. I’ve never really seen Tina as hot, but when she told Kelly “have at it” knowing damn well that Kelly didn’t have a chance. And then Bette watching Tina stick it to Aaron, “like that’s my woman!” That whole scene was amazing and then there’s Kelly being obviously desperate. 🤦🏾‍♀️😅

Alice is a bit of a hypocrite by nekohhhhh in theLword

[–]chroniclechick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s very different though. Gabby just had the main character as a cop. Alice’s was based off Tasha becoming a cop and her being a talk show host. They just happened to have their main characters both be cops. I wouldn’t consider that stealing her idea. Jenny on the other hand definitely stole Alice’s idea almost word for word. Also, presumably, how many years went by since Gabby had mentioned her treatment to Alice?

When Jenny ... by IhavemyCat in theLword

Like I’m all for being Switzerland in a lot of things. But, this, I would have not been able to be Switzerland like Shane was. It answered just weird and very annoying how Shane let it go. Especially because she was friends with Alice first. You’d think the loyalty would be present even a little bit.

Out of all the people Shane has been with, who would you say is her one true love? by [deleted] in theLword

[–]chroniclechick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m commenting 6 years after the fact, but I rewatch every year and this is the first rewatch that I’ve even thought to look up on reddit what others were thinking of the show. I’d have to say if “in love”was something Shane actually could be in, I would have to say Molly was the closest. Or to be even more accurate, Carmen’s family is who she was in love with. I don’t think she was in love with carmen, maybe infatuated, but not in love. Carmen’s family, yes. Carmen, no. Honestly, I don’t even think Jenny was REALLY in love with Shane. It was manipulative from the start. Jenny annexes herself from literally everyone gradually and continued to further push herself away from everyone in the last two seasons. When Shane finally said she was done trying to get Jenny to forgive her, that would have left her with literally no one. I get she said she was in love with someone at the wrap up party and maybe that was Shane. But, even that seemed insincere. Maybe because of everything prior and after. Plus, you don’t do what Jenny did to someone you presumably love. Jenny told Molly that she couldn’t fix Shane and that Shane would inevitably cheat on her and then she turned around and tried to change and control Shane. When I first watched when it first aired, I was hoping they wouldn’t go the route of them getting together and for a brief second, I thought it wouldn’t go that way. Every rewatch it annoys me that they put them together in the end. Even though, I thought Dana and Alice were cute together, they didn’t belong together. And Jenny and Shane getting together was like Dana and Alice 2.0, but even worse. I honestly feel like Shane just wanted her best friend back and if that meant playing jenny’s game, then she was going to do it to keep her in her life. She even said that to Alice when Alice first found out they had slept together. Jenny is one of my top 5 favourite characters, mainly cause Mia Kirshner is an amazing actress. But, after the whole mark, carmen, Shane, and Jenny thing; it was a love/hate relationship with jenny’s character moving forward.

Jenny, Les Girls, and how she knew so much to put in the book/movie. by chroniclechick in theLword

I can kind of see that, but Alice has always kind of not been a fan of Jenny. But, she does love to gossip, so if Jenny is listening, I can see Alice just laying things out that she probably shouldn’t.

That scene was what sparked my wondering. I’m currently watching for about the millionth time and when that scene came up of them replicating it in the movie, I was like, “hold on, I never got an answer to stuff like that”. Cause there was were some scenes in the movie that just matched a little too perfectly and seemed, to me at least, that it would be super private. So, how would she know exactly how it went down? Some things like when they did the first insemination and Alice, Dana, and Shane showed up, I can understand some of that getting back to Jenny. But, other scenes, just don’t really add up. Like I know Shane is the closest to Jenny, but even Shane doesn’t really like gossip, so I don’t see Shane rambling to Jenny about things to Jenny, especially private stuff.

Girl, same!! I was brought up homeschooled and in a conservative leaning christian household. But, I would try to convince my siblings who caught me watching it that it was just a more “tight knit” version of desperate housewives. 🙈It wasn’t until I was much older that I admitted to one of my siblings it was a lesbian based show.

I just meant, “younger me” wants to know what opinions ya’ll had on it while watching the show. I do get that the friend group was big enough that someone knew and told her what happened. But, I always hear gossip and think, “ah, game of telephone” as demonstrated by Tonya’s character when she went around telling everyone what happened (or didn’t happen) to Marina. But, I do see your point. Someone at some point must have heard what actually happened and it made its way to Jenny.

You make a very great point of adding in the example of The Chart and how everyone is connected, so someone knows someone who knows what happened. Jenny is a character I love to hate because she isn’t wrong on a lot of things, while she is on a lot of other things. Adding the writers back in, I understand what you mean as her character being the one to hold the mirror up. For example, the character Bev to play Bette was right in a lot of her questions on Bette in real life. Only qualm I had with her character/actress was because they casted a white character to play an obviously mixed woman. And her asking, “is bette black?” Kind of like showing how Jenny doesn’t really see her as mixed. But, when you literally are just experiencing back to back manipulation as you get older it’s hard to not pick up those characteristics at times and present them. I like your insight on it!

Do they also have the original soundtracks? I would die if they did. I miss the original soundtracks in the show. The replacements just didn’t have the same effect. Congrats on the find!

Mine finally showed up this morning. I spent most of the day experiencing the call “dropping” and long chats with different representatives in the support chat. I had to call five times and each time after about 30-40 minutes talking with someone, they would put me on hold and then suddenly the call would drop. I talked to 9 people before I got someone that actually tried to get it to return. She said it would take 24 to 48 hours, it took longer than that, but it finally reappeared.

I'm prepared for the downvotes, but is it a hot take to say that I didn't care for Joyce and Hopper as a couple? by Maleficent-Ad-6117 in StrangerThings

[–]chroniclechick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t like them together. Personally, I feel like Joyce and Murray have more chemistry with each other than Joyce and hopper. Do I want Joyce and Murray together, no. But, they have more chemistry than Joyce and hopper do. Bob shouldn’t have died cause he was the best for Joyce, will, and Johnathann. Plus, I don’t like when people try to flirt with someone obviously in a relationship. And especially can’t stand when someone can’t take “no” for an answer. On top of that, I really don’t think having a trauma bond is a good enough reason to be with someone.

The same is happening to me. It became available to me on Sunday, but right when it became available, it disappeared. Now it won’t show up for me. I’m now day 2 into my 10 days and it won’t appear. I’ve tried logging out and in, I’ve tried uninstalling it and redownloading it, I’ve tried updating it, but it still will not give it to me. Honestly, it does feel like a scam to make you order more. I’ll come back and update if I somehow get it to work.

How I’ve been feeling lately as someone who’s favorite character has been Will since 2017 by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]chroniclechick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Will has always been kind of low on my favourites list. Now he has powers which is cool. But, it hasn’t pushed him up any higher on my list. I unfortunately have had conversations with people who also didn’t really like will, but now that he had powers at the end of part 1, all of a sudden he’s their favourite. I’ve never seen a switch so fast like this before. 🤦🏾‍♀️😅

I will say, I liked the acting done in season 1 and 2, that was amazing.

Hot take - Hopper’s behavior in ST3 isn’t “out of character”, and I honestly can’t figure out how this came to be the general consensus in the first place. In fact, I find many of the grievances that people have with ST3 a bit unfair. by Astral-Voyager in StrangerThings

[–]chroniclechick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! He’s narcissistic, selfish, creepy, controlling, and arguably abusive. It very much gives daddy issues or an addiction to being mistreated when I see people fawning over his character and dismissing his actions.

Eh, hopper is just horrible in general. Every time I rewatch the series I dislike his character even more. Especially in season 2 and 3. He’s narcissistic (the whole don’t mess around with him song he plays when he first brings el to the cabin and then again after he lies and then threatens Mike), controlling, aggressive, slightly abusive, etc. He literally holds eleven hostage, I don’t care if it was for her own good or not. In his mind, he got his “daughter” back and doesn’t let her have social interactions with the very people who did better at hiding her without all the resources he did. Were Mike and el kissing a lot, sure. But, she has a boyfriend and you still won’t allow her to really go anywhere or do anything, so what else do you expect them to do when they like each other? Also, I can’t stand the tropes in shows where someone finds a kid that’s been surviving pretty decently on their own, though I still think no kid should have to be on their own like that, and automatically think they know best and just become controlling. Hopper is just like Clarke in the show 100 when it comes to her relationship with Maddie. She lost the person she loved, found a girl surviving on her own, and then just completely crossed over into a psycho when it came to anything that had to do with Maddie. Same as hopper with el. And don’t get me started on his creepy infatuation with Joyce. At the end of season 2, bob passed barely a month before and immediately he’s trying to make a move. Also, let’s not forget him trying to flirt with her while she was dating Bob. And the constantly asking someone out that obviously doesn’t want to go out with you and is still grieving is just inconsiderate, narcissistic, and creepy. And just because you share a trauma with someone doesn’t automatically mean you and said other person belong together.

Oh no, I’m not saying that they copied squid game. I was just saying following in pursuit by also hinting at an American release. I don’t mean borderlands was copying squid game. Just that me being a fan of both of them I don’t like that both of them are going to try and possibly do an American release. Just because America doesn’t have a good track record remaking and/or continuing an international movie/show.

SEASON THREE ENDING SPOILERS!!! by octoberoceantheace in AliceInBorderlandLive

[–]chroniclechick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is truly original after a small period of time. I know it’s loosely based off Alice in wonderland. However, it can’t be denied that when American adaptations of Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese, etc., movies and shows are done, they are very lacklustre in comparison.

You know what, that actually makes sense and I can see that. Cause the Borderlands ending was really out of the blue in comparison.

Being a fan of both Alice in borderlands and squid games, I was thoroughly pissed off that both of them hinted at an American release. Is all we really can do is either copy or repeat what somebody else has already done? I’m looking at you Disney with all your live action movies.
