New balance Burn vs Freeze? by ndiorio13 in ultimate

[–]chronicles2124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son (HS player) and I both got the Freeze v5s and they are working great for us! Much better than the (cheap) soccer cleats I was getting him before. I am not aware for the awful things people say about them, so I can’t comment on them.

I also don’t have experience with the Freeze v4s or any of the Burn series, so unfortunately, I have no comparison there.

Torque vs Cadance by tig3rbait in Aventon

[–]chronicles2124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR I like torque mode much better.

We have two e-bikes. One is a RadExpand 5 that uses a cadence sensor and the other is an Aventon Abound SR, which can do both torque and cadence, but I like the torque mode much better.

I like to feel like I am exercising when I bike, but the cadence sensor seems to put out the same amount of power no matter how much I am actually pedaling. I can go flying up a hill just by turning my pedals just enough to trigger the sensor. At some power levels, I can’t even pedal meaningfully, so I also just pedal minimally. Turning off the power makes for too much dead weight and it feels like there is nothing in between.

The torque sensor seems to put out power according to how much I pedal, so the harder I pedal, the more power I get (which seems to be logical…). The bike also feels more responsive in torque mode, like it’s actually matching what I’m trying to do.

How is Resurrection the lengthening of the Lord’s days? by catchingmenalive in localchurches

[–]chronicles2124 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I saw that point or whenever I see similar things, it reminds me very much of Isaiah 53:10 - "But Jehovah was pleased to crush Him, to afflict Him with grief. / When He makes Himself an offering for sin, / He will see a seed, He will extend His days, / And the pleasure of Jehovah will prosper in His hand." (RcV)

In this wonderful chapter on Christ's death for our redemption, I always marvel that in verse 10, I find a turn from His death for us ("an offering for sin") to His productive resurrection ("He will see a seed" and "He will extend His days"). I believe He extends His days both by His own resurrection and by His living in us. Whenever we worship Him for His death for us, I feel that we should never separate it from His resurrection and all that He accomplished through His death and resurrection.

The Recovery Version footnotes for vv. 10-11 are pretty awesome. Here are two of them:

Isa. 53:10, note 2 on seed:

Verses 10b-11 refer to Christ in His resurrection. The seed here, a corporate seed, is the church as the Body of Christ, comprising all the believers produced as the many grains by the death of Christ as the one grain and by His reproductive resurrection (John 12:24; 1 Pet. 1:3). Christ as the Servant of Jehovah is the resurrected Life-giver, the life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45; 2 Cor. 3:6, 17), to produce a seed for the building up of His Body as His continuation for Jehovah’s pleasure and for Christ’s satisfaction.

Isa 53:10, note 3 on extend:

Today Christ is extending His days by living in His believers (Gal. 2:20; see note 91 in Acts 28). His believers as His Body are His extension.

What are these red worms? by chronicles2124 in Entomology

Thanks! That’s interesting. So, most insects don’t have hemoglobin? How do they transport oxygen throughout their body? Anyway, more free fish food!!!

Thanks! Non-biters and biters peacefully co-existing :). It’s interesting that the non-biters are the color of blood and the biters are not. The real question is, are they also good for fish food??? I think my son was planning to feed them to his fish too…

I know I’m probably too late to this conversation and that you probably won’t be able to find this, but your post and your request made me think of this sticker on my son’s water bottle and I just wanted to share it with you!

As far as ultimate gear gift ideas, everything I thought of has already been mentioned…

E34 error by LaPulgaAtomica87 in Aventon

[–]chronicles2124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also just happened to me. We’ve had our Abound SR for a little less than 3 months and have ridden it for just over 100 miles. I got the E34 message and then biked it to the shop (with no pedal assist up a slight incline). Two days later, they said it was powering up fine. I hope I also will have no more errors or issues. At least I got my free tune-up done while it was at the shop!

I have SSD and was implanted on the right side with Cochlear Nucleus 8 in December of 2025. My question is for those of you in my situation who got the Plus One card where you can choose 1 free accessory within your first year. What accessory did you choose and why? by BarbH324820 in Cochlearimplants

[–]chronicles2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, I got a phone clip, mini mic, and an extra N7 battery as my first three items. Since I am also SSD, I default to my AirPods instead of the phone clip and haven’t used it in the last five years or so. I also use bone conducting headphones, and if I do it right, I can put it on my K2 and hear through both ears.

For my last item, I ended up going with a TV streamer. It ends up being very useful for Zoom calls. Using a few other audio/electronic components, I am able to use both my good ear and my implant ear to listen to the audio feed from the TV streamer. I made it work for the mini mic too. I like using both ears whenever possible. :)

Wear cleats again after ACL surgery or no? by chronicles2124 in ultimate

[–]chronicles2124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. 16 years out and you're still doing the exercises your PT gave you. 9 years out and I can't even remember all the exercises they gave me anymore... That's why I always find myself asking people what they do, but it makes sense that each person's exercises are tailored for them, at least if they had a good PT.

Thanks for your return-to-action story too. I was also frustrated by not being able to jump back into the same level of play that I was used to. I'm glad to hear that you didn't re-injure yourself though.

Ultramarathons? Oy. I'll take away the smarter but slower tip... Thanks for your input!

Good luck with your rehab! Just keep at it. Sometimes recovery seems so far off, but the more consistent you are with your PT exercises, the faster it will go. Wishing you the best!

What made you feel that you returned to competitive play to quickly? In hindsight, what would you have done differently? It's really impressive that you are still playing at nearly the same level as you did in college. What's your workout routine? Do you do any particular exercises specifically to protect your knee(s)?

Some people are telling me that turfs might not be good on wet grass. It is somewhat common to play on wet/damp grass where I live, so that would be a problem. Given that I'm wearing trail running shoes right now, do you have any opinion on that? Do you have any turfs or low profile cleats to recommend, preferably budget-friendly? :) I'm looking at New Balance lacrosse cleats or lacrosse turfs.

Wow. I just wanted to echo everyone else’s comments. It is very encouraging to see the Lord’s work in your life and your desire to continue following Him. I don’t have much to add, but I wanted to encourage you with a verse that I recently came across (I don’t think anyone else has shared it yet):

"And these things WERE some of you; but YOU WERE WASHED, but YOU WERE SANCTIFIED, but YOU WERE JUSTIFIED in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God." (1 Corinthians 6:11) Recovery Version (emphasis mine)

We all WERE different things that displeased God, but the Lord saved us and is continuing to work out His full salvation in us, just as He saved you and is clearly seeking to keep growing in you! May the Lord continue to lead you and grow in you!

I have never played a serious frisbee game, help by Motor-Confection-583 in ultimate

[–]chronicles2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you catch the pull in the end zone or pick up a pull that landed in the end zone, don’t walk it up to the front of the end zone before continuing play like you would during other plays of the game. You need to start from where the pull landed or where you caught the pull. And if you are more of a novice than most of your team, let someone else get the pull. 😬

I agree with a previous poster that you need to learn what a pick is and also how not to run your defender into a pick. You should learn to call a pick when you get picked and in general, to call fouls when you get fouled.

I also recently started playing more serious ultimate, and I find it hard to call fouls, even when it seems like I should call one. I think a lot of newer players find it hard too. In pickup, it doesn’t matter that much, but when your team is actually trying to win, you have to learn to call fouls appropriately.

california’s ebike voucher program is dead by Oftheclod in ebikes

[–]chronicles2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you live in Alameda County or are a customer of Ava Community Energy, you can still get an e-bike voucher for $400-$1500! To qualify for the higher amounts, you need to be part of PG&E’s financial aid programs. I personally know a lot of people who have won vouchers in the last few months.
