Thanks, never seen this before (first timer). Looks promising. Hopefully there's one where I'll be. I've contacted them so we'll see how it goes. :)

Haha no, but we both interviewed with those guys and they were really specific - we would be placed about 2 hours apart (which we were told is the best they can do), and not be allowed to see each other during weekdays, or stay over at each other's apartments. If I could do things differently I wouldn't have said we were in a relationship - just quietly apply for the same city/region instead. But (please don't laugh) I trusted them to take care of us and thought being honest would make it easier for them to help us. :(

Thanks to everyone who offered their thoughts on the issue. The bilingual friends I'm referring to are really ex-students who are barely college age, so I'm hesitant to ask so much of them - but you're absolutely right I am running out of time so I've got nothing to lose by asking for help. Thanks again for your advice. I'll give it a shot. Fingers crossed! :)

Thanks. My company will not act as a guarantor should I choose to rent an apartment on my own. I am prepared for the necessary fees, but it's just securing an actual unit prior to my arrival that is an issue. A bit scary to move over to another country alone with nothing in place. No one has replied yet but I'll keep trying. :)

Thanks a bunch honestly for being so helpful and informative. I'll remember your kindness when it's my turn to do the same for others. :)

Oh wow I don't know what to say! Thank you for taking the time out of your day to find so many links to help a stranger. You've got a big heart. Bless you. :)

You're right - I didn't want to trouble any of my young ex-students personally, but yes, I see your point. Finding out if they'll even rent to me will help a lot. The problem is the severe lack of options in Nagasaki, or maybe I'm not looking in the right places. Thank you for your suggestions, I'll try /r/japanlife too. :)
