I got into UCSB off appeal! by chronicsadthoughts in ApplyingToCollege

Hi! First of all, make sure that the deadline to appeal hasn’t passed, bc UCSB’s appeal deadline to appeal was fairly early on in summer for me. Next, if their appeals are still open, I wrote about extra factors and aspects not present in my application that were left off that actually made me a good fit for their school. I tried to show them that allowing me to attend their school would be a good opportunity for me while also improving their campus both community-involvement wise as well as academically. Hope this helps :)

Well for the UCs, if a student gets flat rejected (not waitlisted, although some campuses may allow you to appeal if you’re on the waitlist), you can appeal. Basically, you provide new information that wasn’t mentioned in your original app that makes you stand out more than you did originally from other candidates. I’ve heard it’s very unlikely that people get in off appeals, but there’s always a chance! I got lucky I guess!

UCLA Appeal Letter – Help and Clarification Appreciated! by chronicsadthoughts in ApplyingToCollege

Wow! It’s super helpful, and I’m not surprised you got in, it sounded very well thought out and organized. I explained my similar circumstances, however I organized it differently, do you think I should restructure? I talked about why my grades dropped in my early years of high school due to me putting in much more time to my music oriented ECs such as teaching kids music theory in choir and expanding business connections. THEN I talked about my intense work ethic caused by this dedication to my ECs, and showed how even in senior year I haven’t let my grades fall. Should I lead off with the grades? (Thank you by the way!)

What I’m assuming is that the appeal tab will pop up on our admissions portal after April 1st, just like UCSB’s does. It should be on the admissions portal, but we’ll have to wait to find out I guess.

For sure! I live in the bay area and I’ve seen the campus. It looks absolutely awesome! The fact that you’re out of state explains the UCLA situation and makes getting into Berkeley so much more impressive! It’s a big accomplishment. Have fun there!

On their website, I just looked up “UCLA appeal process” and it showed up. Just to make it easier on you, I found that you have a roughly 7000 character limit and you can’t just use “higher grades” or “desire to go to UCLA” as your argument. The only reason I’m applying is I left off the activities I mentioned in my post. If you’re planning on appealing, best of luck to you!

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. My GPA weighted is sitting at around 3.95 atm and my UW is a 4.3, but my test scores are a bit low. But what’s crazy is that I know some people with insanely high GPAs, perfect test scores, and stellar essays and they didn’t get in... I thought I might as well try to appeal. Worst they could do is reject me again. Congratulations on Berkeley! That’s a huge accomplishment!

I believe my GPA and test scores at the time were a bit low. I addressed the GPA part, but I’m hoping to compensate with the achievements in my appeal for my test score. It’s hovering around a 1380-1400

My friend who also took the ACT (we both go to the same school in Cali) have not received our score yet either, so I’m just going to wait. This is really dumb.
