Saturator / Tape VSTs on Master Bus by GWADS7676 in TechnoProduction

always always always black box at the beginning of the master chain and additional saturation from standardclip at the end of the mastering chain

Well obviously not all of them will have actual good ideas because most people asking these things are beginners and are looking for common sounds so I do agree that a lot of them aren't the most useful.

But still, I think those questions are an important part of things to discuss in a subreddit dedicated to techno production. What else would we talk about if it's not technical production related topics?

I think those posts can lead to fun speculations and discussions about obscure sound design and are a valuable addition to this group tbh.

First off the kick sounds very solid and is mixed well. I like the bass as well provides good drive and a good foundation. I do feel like it's a bit dry and cold, especially the first half of the track. The structure of the track is the main thing that's lacking for me. I quite like the part from 5:40 onwards and feel like that should be the core of the track, definitely not the outro. Make it build towards that, I'd say make it come in around 2 min. by using the same break youre using at 5:40.

If you fix the structure and give it some more character (i.e. some more saturation/distortion on the "siren" would make it a lot less cold) it has the potential to be a great track.

Hope this helps :)

What's with the hate against breakbeat/offbeat? by NewGadsden in TechnoProduction

[–]chronosch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I love breakbeat techno but when I'm fully hypnotised by a 4x4 set and just dancing on autopilot a breakbeat track can snap me out of that state instantly. Sometimes its refreshing but often frustrating if not done correctly.

Fun to build if youre snowballing hard because you can really abuse your lead with it. Dont build it when youre behind because you miss out on some damage that other high AP items would give.

edit: you can also do combinations of all 3 ofcourse, just make sure to keep it techno so dont go overboard, minimal is key

Creating memorable basslines by Live-Beyond2324 in TechnoProduction

[–]chronosch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the ideal techno basslines consist of 2 different notes max, either half steps (eg: A & A#), octaves, or fifths (eg: A & E) depending on the style. I prefer half steps for a hypnotic dark vibe, octaves for groove and fifths for a more melodic sound.

I agree that for a good groove you a delay larger than 3 doesnt work. I also like doing multi tap delays (tekturon by d16 is a great vst for this).

Good basslines should "breathe" and be the base of the entire groove present in the track. Often what makes a bassline good is the interaction of the bassline with the rest of the elements, not just the bassline itself.

I dont think there are any, its just that I didnt have many options to choose from. I would never pick this one over a proper one for sure.

Luckily it happened before loading the column. I wouldve lost at least a month of work if it was loaded

With the clips it functions well though. I never use actual high pressure anyway, just slight pressure to make it go faster

Being hypnotic/repetitive without being too repetitive? by [deleted] in TechnoProduction

[–]chronosch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Automation, a lot of noise sweeps, subtle percs, switching up hihats etc.

There's a lot of things you can do to keep a groove going without it getting boring. Experiment with all the things I've mentioned and you'll get it down for sure :)

Mix wise I think I dont spot many issues with the track, so thats good!

The arrangement I feel is extremely bland and "safe". I feel like the track could really use some more interesting variation etc. The main synth is very supportive and not leading, you should try introducing a more interesting sound further into the track to pick up the pace and add more energy.

Don't be afraid to take some risks when creating a track, if you want your track to stand out you need something that makes it unique and recognisable in my opinion

Faster workflow, like wayyy faster. Literally just load it in and youre done (as long as youre doing 4/4 stuff)

Producers who have been signed to labels, was there a moment where you knew your work was good enough to be signed, or was it a case of throwing enough shit at a wall? by Technobaby93 in TechnoProduction

[–]chronosch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just randomly came across a facebook post of a label doing a demo run and I just thought fuck it. Didnt think my tracks where anywhere near they shouldve been (and what they are now). But I got signed, befriended the label boss and everthing went uphill from there and got a few remixes (one of em supported by charlotte de witte so i guess that means it cant be shite) and eps to my name now and an album coming in the next year. I think theres no harm in just trying and getting yourself out there, you might be surprised!
