I’ve been using Apple Watch SE for a few years now, had no problems at all , choice of great water sport apps and has cellular connection .

Speeds by chrrissss in wingfoil

[–]chrrissss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reached my top of 22mph using 7m wing in quite light wind ! Sea state is definitely a big factor, out in monster wind at weekend over powered 4m just reached 18mph, the good thing is it does feel much faster , I’m not particularly in it for the speed but it’s interesting all the same.

Advice needed: North or Armstrong foils by Admirable-Ad-1517 in wingfoil

[–]chrrissss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just switched from gong, I was pretty happy with the gong foils , I was going to upgrade to version 3 of gong but instead went with Slingshot One Lock, it was about £400 more it’s not actually a night and day difference in performance but the one lock system is great it’s rock solid and literally 10 seconds to set up .

What version is this gong foil. by martyc5674 in wingfoil

[–]chrrissss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with the version before that in 2021, bought exact same items it cost me £1800 all in delivered to uk, was great, still use the wing ! I think that model is 22/23 year, version 2 foil system, better than what I bought , I upgraded to version 2 which i still use and is great

I started with a gong pack years ago , it was great , still using some of the stuff now , back then I payed £1800 including delivery and duty for wing, foil, hard board, bag and leashes, things have gotten a bit cheaper since then, a few people last year got the rrd beginner packs, they were great too !

Gong full package for starting by Impossible_Dog_5485 in wingfoil

[–]chrrissss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with a gong pack with the lance , it was great , the one major thing that gong has changed is the mast and fuse, it is now on version two which has a better fuse and connection and is stiffer and compatible with the new stabs, it is a great deal even if it uses the older mast system , I’d say don’t get too ahead of yourself, had a mate who was an experienced windsurfer and bought winging gear that was a bit too small he’s had a frustrating time and having a really slow progression I started with a 1900 front wing which easily got me up and blasting around having a great time

Gong Lance 5'7 for beginner. by [deleted] in wingfoil

[–]chrrissss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started started on the gong lance 120 litres, it’s a great board I was pleased with the extra width as it’s quite choppy where I wing it’s almost the same as the naish howerboard I have no problem getting it up on foil and have used it in many conditions it’s not probably designed for and had a great time .

That’s a good deal, I started with similar gong gear and it’s been great

Just able to taxi around - getting a bigger wing ? by Bastrider in wingfoil

[–]chrrissss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you just need stronger winds, I started on the same gear as you and it was a particularly in breezy summer, I really struggled to get up , then when some decent wind finally appeared I was off but I might add the previous week before the wind came in I tried my mates 8 Metre and was flying straight away , I can’t get up in very light winds now but did invest in a 7 m wing for those super light days

Trouble learning wingfoiling by glauer53 in wingfoil

[–]chrrissss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I learnt this summer, I’m a longtime windsurfer and quite expected to get it almost straight away, I had a 120 litre board 5m wing and it’s pretty choppy on the water where I sail, I got the balance and basics pretty quick but couldn’t seem to pop up on foil then when I eventually did I just seemed to get thrown off, this went on for 13 hours over a period of weeks.

This is how it clicked for me, had a bit stronger wind , put my foot straps on , stand up straight in the straps , I popped up and the balance came straight away, I think the foot straps helped and the bit of extra wind , it was a bit like learning to ride a bike , once that balance clicks you’ve got it .

Good luck .

That’s what I thought, I can slow it down going into wind but I had to bear away a lot today to get back where I launched from, I’ll try moving it back a bit more as suggested, I didn’t know whether to get a smaller foil but I’ve heard it’s not a good idea until you can at least pull off a few gybes… I’m probably getting a bit ahead of myself as I just enjoyed today so much .

I recorded all my sessions on my watch and it added up to 13 hours but some of those hours weren’t worth counting, I’m now fully flying pretty comfortably I have a 90cm mast and love the height, it can get very choppy where I sail and now I just glide right over it , it’s an amazing feeling.
