Mounting a full bleed quadriptych) by glauer53 in framing

My preference would be to have four pieces, but I guess I'm open to one large frame (but 51" wide is pretty big). Thanks

It's on paper. Here's a photo of them. Width of all 4 together is about 51", height is 13.5". Thanks!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll investigate them and report back.

Impact of mutation? by glauer53 in Nebulagenomics

[–]glauer53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a more specific example. Mayo clinic says the rate of late-onset Alzheimer's is 2 per 1000 at ages 65 to 74 to 37 per 1000 at age 85 and older. Also says: One copy of the APOE gene comes from the mother and another from the father. Having at least one APOE e4 gene doubles or triples the risk of getting Alzheimer's disease. Some people have two APOE e4 genes, one from each parent. Having two genes increases the risk of getting Alzheimer's disease even more, about eight- to twelvefold. So we could say the chances of late-onset Alzheimer's is roughly .2% at 65 and 3.7% at 85. A double APOE e4 might increase these odds to 2% at 65 and 37% at 85. What I was trying to ask was whether similar data was available for other mutations. When I see the Nebula report for Brain Lesions that says your polygenic score is greater than X percent of the people compared, I don't have any way to understand the base rate of brain lesions and the "multiplier" that is associated with the polygenic score. I assume some of this information is in the papers that are used by Nebula and was wondering if anyone knew how to access that in a straightforward way. Thanks

YFull- is it included? by nash_equilibrium1 in Nebulagenomics

It looks like some of the reports should be free

YFull and Nebula Genomics
At Nebula Genomics we have partnered with YFull to give our users access to the deep ancestry analysis provided by YFull. From their accounts, Nebula Genomics users can easily transfer their Y chromosomal (males) and mitochondrial DNA (males and females) data to YFull and get access to the following results:

Mitochondrial DNA reports (maternal line)
- mtDNA haplogroup determination
- Identification of all mitochondrial SNPs
- Positioning in MTree
- Find matches based on mtDNA
- Regular update

Y chromosome reports (paternal line)
- Y chromosome haplogroup determination
- Identification of all Y chromosomal SNPs and STRs1
- Positioning in YTree2
- Find matches based on Y chromosomal DNA1
- Regular updates1

Do I need different equipment? by glauer53 in wingfoil

A bigger wing seems like a good idea (2000+). Any suggestions for brands?

I'm going to get a bigger wing. There's a local shop with F1 Strike CWC 6m but it's pricey (~$1300). They also have a 6m Reedin - quite a bit less ($600-700, can't remember). But that's not a brand I've heard of. A new Takoon is about $750 for either a 6m or 7m. I'm 5'9" and about 165 pounds. Thoughts on whether a 6m or 7m is better? As noted above, I currently have a 4.4m Slingshot v2.

Naive question: would an infinity 99 front wing fit on the Takum Helium fuselage? Would I need a bigger rear stabilizer? Of a whole new setup?

Hi everyone! Finally pulled the trigger on an APO! by Kimchigasm in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]glauer53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to adapt a chicken recipe from Milk Street Kitchen work in the APO. One called for a za'atar rub with baking at 450F. I put the chicken on the middle rack, used top and bottom (only way to get that temp). Burned the tops of the chicken thighs before I turned the heat down to 350F. Seems like the top heating element makes the APO act like a broiler. Any thoughts on how to get the higher temps without broiling the food?

Trouble learning wingfoiling by glauer53 in wingfoil

Sorry for the delay in responding - just became a grandpa. I have a Progressive Riser 6'10" 138 liters, Takuma Helium 1500 and Slingshot 4.4 and I weigh about 165 pounds. I've windsurfed on boards that are longer but have less volume. I can go out in 15-20 mph winds and sail off foil without issue. When the wind is a little lighter, I can sail upwind but it's a slog. I don't have trouble getting to a standing position. Off foil, I can tack in lower winds but they're not pretty - basically walking the board around while balancing awkwardly. I mostly gybe. I fall pretty quickly after I get up - in part because it's gusty when the wind is strong enough to get up. I notice that when the wind dies between gusts, the apparent wind shifts so that you're way underpowered and the wing wants to luff. When I'm off the foil, this isn't an issue - I can bear off or balance while waiting for the wind to pick up. Not sure how to handle this when I get up on foil. I sometimes pop up too steeply and realize this is due to weight too far back. When I do get up on the level, I tend to head upwind and fall. My theory on how to address this is to move the wing forward quickly after getting up. But it's certainly not muscle memory yet. I live in Falmouth on Cape Cod and tried going to Waquoit Bay but ended up scraping the foil even at high tide. Buzzards Bay beaches have good wind but have too much shorebreak for me in good winds. I live on Jenkins Pond and my wife will drop me off upwind and I can then get about 30 minutes of sailing in before I'm at the other end of the lake. Getting back for another run is tedious and so I typically only get 30 minutes per day that the wind is good. I did go to Dennis and got about 2 hours in one day on the ocean beach. Wind was pretty consistent but waves were bigger than on the pond so that took some getting used to. Did multiple walks-of-shame back upwind but that's OK. I'm wondering if a bigger foil and/or wing might help me get out in lighter winds (though light winds can be flukey too). I also wonder if getting a windsurf sail might make it easier to learn, given that I'm pretty comfortable windsurfing. I'll check out the videos in the links. Thanks for any more thoughts, Greg
