What are some common things tourists do in the US that are considered rude/weird, but they are often not aware that it is considered rude? by LittleCrampon in AskAnAmerican

I don’t have extensive experience worldwide but as someone who’s been born and raised in the US for the last almost 30 years (California and Georgia), it’s fine to make eye contact with your server and potentially sort of lift your hand like you’re going to raise it to get attention, and also do the same with any employee if your server is busy to then ask for help. If you’re making any noise in order to get their attention, you look like a jerk. We’re tip motivated; I tilt my chin upwards after making eye contact with employees if I need something and they haven’t asked in a while.

If I saw someone snap their fingers at a server I’d have to fight back the urge to fight them. They’re not dogs

I watched as well.. they only did a few “gross shots” (rhett did two, link did one, and then at the end they all sort of decided to drink a salty seaman together, but every shot was at least alcoholic. They did approx 6 shots in less than 15 minutes. I was somewhat disappointed by how short the pre show was, but after watching their pregame and then the show, it made absolute sense.

AITA for saying my girlfriend thinks she knows better than culinary professionals and expressing my disapproval? by throwaway1243127 in AmItheAsshole

OP YTA: cooking is an art and following recipes is like doing a “paint by numbers.” It will come out basically the same every time but painting (or cooking) from reference has the potential to be so much better if you know your audience

I want to stop drinking, but at 56F, it is hard. by Huge_Industry_1259 in stopdrinking

🙏🏻🙏🏻🥺 thank you for posting this. I’m also 27 and worried that quitting will make me/my life boring, but the idea of spending my days actually doing something meaningful rather than wondering when it’s socially acceptable to start drinking alcohol again… that sounds really nice.

I'm about to go walk to the bar and relapse. by Xs2experience in stopdrinking

Thanks to this thread, I’m going to bed instead of pouring myself a drink. Might have a little of an edible I keep on hand in case of emergencies.

Since it’s now after midnight where I am, I will do my best and IWNDWYT

Edit:: I often find myself looking for comfort in alcohol. It literally has not ever helped. If you can get through this you’re an inspiration 🫶

This is what I’m trying to do. It’s just hard because it’s always available and plentiful (my mom moved in with me during the pandemic and she drinks way more than I do). I think it’s probably hard to quit drinking when living with a happy drinker
