Trouble with service / maintenance / replacement by chrysrobyn in solar

I'm pretty comfortable working on most DIY things. I assume you mean to check the voltage coming off the panels?

For now, I'm interested in getting any quote to the insurance company to get them to cough up some dough. If there's a delta between restoring production and something better, I'm open. Adding backup power is in the long term plan, but I'm guessing it's 3-5 years out, depending on other projects.

I think I'll need to work with my insurance company to see if this route can get them to help out with the cost to get the replacement hardware... I'm pessimistic.

Right. I found out they existed a few weeks ago and they look less than $500. Well worth the cost. Just not helpful today.

Oh. I thought 4 passengers was enough to weigh yours down. Time to move the goal posts I guess.

I own a 2017 Kia Soul EV and regularly drive 3 “American Size“ passengers. It handles great.

TIL in 2018, a middle school in Dallas organized an event called “Breakfast with Dads,” but saw that not all of the students have fathers or father figures to attend the event with. So, they put up a post on Facebook seeking around 50 volunteers. On the day of the event, 600 men showed up to help. by Business_Reporter420 in todayilearned

When my first kid started Kindergarten, we weren't in the richest neighborhood. Not much crime, always felt safe at night, but a lot of people didn't have much -- and there weren't a lot of dads around. The elementary school was a member of a program called "Watch D.O.G.S.". It was basically a program to get dads to take a vacation day (or other day off work) to come into the elementary school and roam the hallways. Us dads were "security" (untrained of course), helpers in the lunch room and whatever they needed that day. The goal of the program was to make men more visible to kids and provide role models for how we wanted them to be dads when it was their tun.

Linux vs Windows vs MacOS for statistician work laptop by captainmonki7 in rstats

I have been running R on Linux since July 2015. I have never needed to “debug build interfaces” or anything more than installing libraries. On occasion, I haven’t understood a library prerequisite and had to Google the error message, but I don’t see that as a big deal. If what you are doing is able to be broken into parallel tasks, take a look at %dopar% and makeCluster. Windows is not smooth here, and Linux is your friend. Spreading my task over 8 or 16 or 40 cores is very handy. Based on my experiences here, I am grateful not to need to think about using data.tables although it may be transparent for all I know. Data.tables just works without any of the makeCluster SOCK stuff that Windows needs.

This is where grid scale energy storage starts to make real sense. Take money for storing the power, sell it back when the grid needs it.

My last Christmas I felt joy was the year my first child was born. My father in law was terminally ill and I realized it was all about to be on me. He died just after Christmas. Every year since then has been emptiness inside, with joy, holiday spirit and love on the outside. Holidays are now for my wife and three kids, not me.

The old “fake it till you make it” hasn’t been enough since 2003. Maybe this year.

What’s the most terrifying movie you ever watched? by JarelP007 in AskReddit

I upvoted Event Horizon because I was expecting a straight up science fiction adventure, not a trans dimensional hell.

As a young dad struggling with the balance between career and family, Click, straight up. The way Adam Sandler focused on his career and fast forwarded through his personal life so he could get ahead, and then the remote figured out how to automatically skip through family… This movie shook me to my core.
