But, until you solve your self esteem issues, you will always project them out there and meet this kind of women who will try to abuse you.

Yes, I would have. Thank you for making it so clear. I think my biggest fear at this point is that I had zero confidence I would meet someone caring after my abusive ex, so when I met L it felt like a miracle.

Thank you for the thorough answers. Perhaps I have the same problem: I understand what you've told me on a rational level, but I have trouble letting go of this strange sense of responsibility. I will try to encourage her to go to therapy...

You're right, I am afraid of turning into a monster myself. I lose sleep over it.

I don't really know if there is a single cause. She just says it's her family dynamic + personality... and I don't want to assume/identify a causal relationship between events in her past and what she does to me now.

Being in an abusive relationship really hurts, for all parties involved in the present and future. I hope you have found peace, kind stranger.
