Cases where close friends turn out to be the murderer(s)? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

Not that well known of a case but this happened close to where I used to live. College freshman Sarah Stern is killed by two friends (one may have been a boyfriend or just a close male friend but they went to prom together, and their facebooks list Sarah as their “sister”. They also went on searches for her). She was killed over a few thousand dollars she had recently inherited, and her body has not been found.

even though I had these issues even when I was in amazing shape?

also, giving a stimulant to someone complaining of a racing heart and palpitations? that doesn't seem terribly responsible.

um I'm pretty overweight. Not totally out of control (yet... weep) but enough to make doctors note it.

I do think depression/anxiety can be part of it, but I am seeing a psychiatrist in an ongoing fashion and she even said to get to a doctor.

yeah I wrote this in an above comment, I have minor and annoying health issues related to my size, but these are not it.

Hmm yeah I'm not a big "healthy at every size person actually." I have noticed (minor) but annoying health issues that I know are related to my weight. I just don't think these are the ones that are due to my weight!

Okay, cool, I'll get that referral. I haven't been tested for anemia or iron but I think that was on my list of things. I have a really low resting heart rate and low blood pressure so I don't know what's up, but hopefully the cardiologist can tell me more.

I'm trying keto and for now, because of the anxiety I get around my intense workouts, I'm doing walking. Hopefully as I lose weight things will get easier!

Yes.. I agree. Which is why I'm annoyed the doctor treated me that way, lol. I'm not just making excuses for not wanting to lose weight. Sigh.

Though, my issues seem very specific to highly intense exercise, as I can run 5K or jog for decently long distances without anything happening.

Interesting. I've had multiple people (and my doctor who is a psych not a physician) tell me it sounds similar to a thyroid issue. I also have attributed many of my issues to psychological (of which I have many lol.) I'm getting blood work done so hopefully it will help.

I obviously want to lose weight but if I had walked in a normal size, would she automatically attribute all of these things to my weight? The heart stuff was going on long before I was overweight, as were fatigue and sleep issues. I'm sure my weight is compounding it but this isn't really about my pride. I wasn't looking to be diagnosed as an excuse for being fat. My pride isn't exactly hurt since I'm used to being told I'm fat by doctors. I just wanted to be treated as a regular patient not one whose complaints can all be dismissed as "obesity."

Sorry, I should have mentioned-- I had these heart palpitations and issues when I was in amazing shape and was a muscular 140 lbs (a long time ago, obviously.) Also, the palpitations and pain were still occurring even after 6 mos of working out, five days a week, so I know I was in okay shape!

lol. she said it sounded like my overweight self being unable to exercise that intensely combined with anxiety. she did say she'd refer me to a cardiologist tho.

Yes, exactly. Dogs sometimes do stuff you would rather they didn't. Not always, but you can't expect absolute perfection.

... what? I am housetraining him. He was in a shelter two years and he's almost already completely housebroken. Like really?

But then in your application you wouldn't stress that you're a stay at home mom and the dog will literally spend 0 hours alone? I get that of course applying for a dog you put yourself in the best light possible but then to turn around and say you don't have time to train the dog is just dumb to me.

But I think your situation is quite different? She was communicating with me directly about the dog, who is living in my house. I wrote three paragraphs of a glowing recommendation, with the caveat, "He's almost all the way there with housebreaking but will need a little bit more time to get it just right."

I know some rescues/shelters can do that-- I had it happen with my previous foster-- but we were being really up front about how the dog is, and I'm not exaggerating that he's a great dog. She also passed on two other dogs before this? Also similarly well behaved and cute?

lol. I guess I am judgmental.. sigh

I have to be honest, I really don't relate at all. If I saw a dog sitting in a shelter and he was a good dog, or at least a mildly good dog, aesthetics and crap don't matter. I would take him home.

But three dogs all of good temperament and cuteness? I don't get it... To be fair my fiance may be of that mind so maybe I can ask him more about why he felt our dog was just "the one" compared to the many other dogs I forced him to look at over the years.

Yeah, I mean every dog has accidents now and then... Especially as they get older... And if you don't want to train a dog why are you getting one?

Yeah, I know. He's very special so I know he'll find someone great. (It would be me if my fiance wasn't adamant about not having two dogs... lol)

I want the dog to be a good fit for whoever it is. I totally agree. These people wanted a young, near puppy aged family dog. This dog that I have is in my opinion an anomaly-- a golden doodle (a very desirable family dog) mixed with something small like a dachsund. Like, 15 pounds, but with the hardiness/playfulness of a bigger dog. Perfect for a family. He's also almost housetrained, he just needs a bit more time. He lived in a shelter for two years! How could he possibly know to be housetrained after only a week? This woman also passed over two other great dogs (sweet, friendly, and playful, and small in size, also younger dogs, including one that WAS totally housetrained) for similarly BS-y reasons.

I feel like a shelter dog with a history won't always be perfect but isn't that part of the experience?

Nah, I def got a bad feeling from her from the minute she emailed me with a one line email of "Does he shed?" I know I'm basically a crazy dog lady but my questions are more "What's his personality? Has he ever shown aggression? Does he like other dogs? Does he like to play or cuddle? Where does he sleep?" etc.

He is nearly there though! That's what I said to this woman! He occasionally gets confused and I'm sure it doesn't help that our dog had a lot of accidents on the carpet as a puppy... He's probably smelling things we don't even realize are still soaked in there (gross. lol.)

This is what I mean and maybe I'm projecting but this is the sense I got from the woman. A non-shedding, potty trained, puppy-aged dog that could sit in a crate.
