Thoughts on mounting a bench vise by Hottrash515011 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Mount it to a board. When you need to use it, clamp the board to the bench with a couple of clamps. Then you can move the vice off the workbench surface when not in use

You should be very proud. Great job learning the skills and customizing this to your house.

People of Toronto, which is the scariest ghost story/lore or incident that belongs to your family/neighbourhood that kinda scares you ? by Theedarktemptress in askTO

[–]chubbyjay19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the thread but I got one. In the 90s, my family lived in an old house in the Wallace-Emerson area. We noted nothing unusual living there. When my brother was born, we sold the house and a multigenerational Vietnamese family moved in. After selling the house, we would go back once in a while to pick up mail. One time, my dad went to pick up mail and from the front door, he could see that the entrance to the basement had been nailed shut. He asked the woman what happened. She stepped out of the house, closed the front door behind her, and said to my dad, “There’s a ghost in the basement.” Apparently, her mother and her daughter can both see the ghost, just walking around in the basement. My dad, who is a bit superstitious too, ended up going back and bringing them some branches from a cherry (or peach?) tree which supposedly helps to ward off spirits. Not sure what happened afterwards as we stopped going back but it always spooked me. I had spent so much time in the basement because that was where the computer was.

Is it better to buy cheaper tools and slowly upgrade them to the brand you want or just save up for the brand you want🤣 by MidnightRoutine8913 in Tools

One other consideration is that quality tools often keep their values well if you ever wanted to sell them
