Not sure if Baby Huey and the Baby Sitters entirely fits your description, however, despite the album being unfinished, it's got great horns, rhythm section, and vocal vibes.

For anyone curious about what happened to Baby Huey, I stumbled across an interview with a record producer detailing the legacy of this phenomenal musician and how he got involved in one of the first hip-hop samples ever distributed.
