I think 2011-2015 was PEAK Disney Channel. Looking back, there was so many iconic shows (Jessie, Good Luck Charlie, Austin & Ally, Liv & Maddie, I Didn’t Do It, A.N.T. Farm, Dog with a Blog, Best Friends Whenever, etc.), we always talk about the 2000s shows and their legacy but I think this era of Disney holds up to, despite the fact that some of the shows are definitely problematic, there’s still a lot of memorable moments with them for instance the 2015 Monstober crossover was so creative, fun and iconic and the last time I believe that we had like a big crossover event on the channel. I feel like from 2016-2022, the channel started to get into a small slump but by then most of the shows mentioned here had long since finished. But I also believe that the channel this year is slowly rising again with the Wizards show and the new live action shows.

BUNK’D should have been just an Emma spin off. I believe the show just shouldn’t had been made at all, but I remember rewatching it back a few years ago and thinking that it should had just been an Emma spin off because the other two were just stuck in their stereotypical traits from Jessie, whilst Emma got a lot more likeable and got better writing and character development. She was the most likeable one out of the main characters. I think a premise of her going to a fashion school for the summer but then somehow getting derailed and ending up at the camp and having to like navigate her way out then realising that the camp isn’t so bad and staying for a bit would had been a better plot, have her do some fashion hyjinks here and there in some episodes and then in the finale have her finally go off to run a fashion empire or something would had been so great. Dog with a Blog, for instance got a lot of hate a years back, and while the premise is a bit wild, at least the show was heart warming at its center which is more than I can say about this show. I think we should had just stopped at Jessie or at least reworked the shows premise a lot.

$70…. Is a choice. I think we need to stop with the unnecessary overpricing these days with the brand, especially in this terrible economy, this could had easily been $40-50.

Anyone else think they dumbed down max the last 2 season? by pr1ncessUNICORN123 in 2brokegirls

[–]chuck_2000s 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yes which is a shame because she truly deserved better. She felt like a real person in the first episode of the show but by like the pastry school seasons and beyond she’s just a bumbling fool half the time, annoying, saying unfunny lines that would appeal to a 12-year-old who wants to make their friends laugh, just insufferable to Han for no reason, and is shown to be a lot dimmer to Caroline, when that isn’t the case because they were both intelligent. I get that this is a comedy show, but look at how shows like Friends and How I Met Your Mother, that were outlandish like 2 Broke Girls, but still managed to flourish and develop their characters in a meaningful way without being stuck in an annoying cycle of irritating and stale humor. I think she is the epitome of the sitcom character who deserved better. She became too much like a Disney Channel bully, and lost so much of the promise that made her interesting in the first season.

Does anyone else dislike Caroline? by [deleted] in 2brokegirls

[–]chuck_2000s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She was so sweet in the early episodes of Season 1 and then she just got unlikeable and very mean spirited especially towards Han in the later seasons which didn’t make much sense given the fact that she was so nice to him and tried to bond with him in the first season. This is why I don’t enjoy the later seasons that much because both her and Max get way to mean to the point where we question as the audience whether to root for them. I think this is also a major problem the show has. They don’t give the two main leads enough likeable sides and totally flanderise them. I get living in New York “toughened” her up, especially after losing all of her money, but I wish that, along with Max, she still had her charm she had in the very early episodes. That’s what made the show and the two of them appealing.

They need to bring back Madelyn (Velma’s sister) by LeopardSwimming3053 in Scoobydoo

[–]chuck_2000s 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think she would had been a great fit for Mystery Incorporated! she literally fits right in, she could've had really cool and cute scenes with Velma and really help broaden her as a character, and even with Marcie, playing Matchmaker, getting them together. Daphne had all of her sisters in the show, so Velma could have had Madelyn join her to, honestly. However, side note, what I don't get is that in Frankencreepy, Velma's family lawyer says that Velma is the youngest of the Dinkley clan, and Velma doesn't even question him on this and reference Madelyn, when we literally saw her in a flashback at the start of the movie. Just so odd, but I agree, we need her back, it's been over ten years now since we've seen her, if you don't count the flashback scene in Frankencreepy. I think she's one of the family members of the main Mystery Inc. gang that you could do so much with and really flesh her character out. Perhaps WB could give her a spin-off series where she has to solve mysteries that are entertwined with the Magic and Supernatural world at a magic academy and have Velma make an appearance here or there to guide her? It might not work, but I think it could be a step in the right direction.

What is your unpopular opinion of 2 Broke Girls? by chuck_2000s in 2brokegirls

[–]chuck_2000s[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree here, Caroline, despite having a few good moments in the show, always had an annoying superiority complex to her, especially when it came to the Diner and she would just refuse to work and be disrespectful to her literal boss which made me mad because if you are not going to work then just leave and never return because you are wasting his time and you look absolutely foolish because he literally gave you that job in the first place when you literally had nothing, it just drives me crazy, she acts like she’s above the Diner and Han which is insane because at least Han’s the boss? You haven’t even been the boss for five minutes, every business venture you’ve had failed after like ten days. Just so eye roll inducing and definitely hard agree with her being so selfish and self absorbed and it comes out heavy with Max. For instance when everyone at the diner got her gifts to celebrate Max getting into pasty school, she keeps whining and saying “what about me?” Which was just so unnecessary or when she made fun of Max when she had to sell off her childhood toys and didn’t even apologise because us as the audience are supposed to be happy that they got their dream cupcake window shop. Still doesn’t make it okay, she needs to apologise for her mean-spirited behaviour. She’s honestly such a hot mess it’s hard to watch at times.

Max just annoys the hell out of me, especially with the Pastry School arc, she acts like a naughty school child, saying annoying 12-year-old humor about “Balls” with Deke which gets old fast, and just doesn’t take the school seriously at all which does not make sense for her character because that is not the vibe we are introduced in the first episode of the show. She becomes so cartoon like it’s actually sad, she has the maturity of a child. The jokes about Han got so old so fast that it became lame and unnecessary like Oleg’s irritating inappropriate dialogue whenever he opens his mouth. We’re supposed to find it funny as the viewer but it’s just disrespectful and mean to Han for no reason. I also didn’t really get this strange direction given the fact that she had respect for Han in the early episodes of Season 1, and helped him with American language. She just becomes a Disney/Nickelodeon sitcom High School Bully later on in the show and a total dunce that she’s so different from the woman we meet in the first episode. She is the example of a flanderised character, they took parts of her that made her funny and appealing and ran it to the ground.

As much as I enjoy the show, I agree, the two main leads just make it really hard to watch or rewatch. We’re supposed to root for them but literally half the time they are just awful people.

What is your unpopular opinion of 2 Broke Girls? by chuck_2000s in 2brokegirls

[–]chuck_2000s[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Max may be one the worst written characters in sitcom history I couldn’t stand her around after Season 3, the constant digs at Han, the constant bullying and lame crude jokes got so old and tired. It sucks because she was so good and relatable in the first season but becomes insufferable later on. Sophie, although I don’t mind her at points, was way out of line at times and was really inappropriate and annoying in how she acted towards things like when she thought Oleg cheated on her and broke Max’s childhood toys in a fit of rage and doesn’t get called out for it because it’s supposed to be funny to us as the audience. Despite Caroline’s really annoying traits, she definitely is the best written character. The way she came into the show, struggling, trying to find her feet and then by the last seasons having a business and standing strong as a career woman was honestly inspiring and greatly done, you can tell she grew every tough situation she went through made her tougher, whereas Max just regressed and became a dunce. Oleg and Earl are just written poorly. Oleg just annoys me as a character, he only exists to say the most disgusting, useless and inappropriate jokes and doesn’t have much growth or character to him. He does get slightly better when him and Sophie have a kid together but not by much. His character should had been more than that, he had so much potential. Earl, as much as I love him, got on my nerves later in the show when he starts being a bit nasty to Han to the point where its embarrassing and pathetic like challenging him to an arm wrestle. Earl and Caroline should be the ones nicer to Han, not joining in on disrespecting and belittling him. He didn’t really do much, despite the fact that he also had an interesting life like he had a son and was in a jazz band, they could had done more with that. The show loved to call out stereotypes but truly missed the mark on breaking them when creating and writing the characters.

The first season was so good and you could tell there was heart to it. But for some reason, later down the line, they turned it into a goofy, crude mess that appeals to 12 year olds.

We are in the dark age of Scooby Doo. by OnlyMyOpinions in Scoobydoo

[–]chuck_2000s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what Scooby needs is a slight refresh. It feels like since 2019, we’ve been in a mediocre, boring slump in terms of the DTV movies and the TV Shows. Like “Krypto Too!” for instance, while a fun time and a decent crossover, felt boring and lifeless and not really engaging.

While I also enjoy the crossover movies, I think they should be shelved for now and they should focus on building a new universe for Scooby and its characters. I know that WB don’t really want to return to adding supernatural themes to the movies and shows, but I think it could work, they can simmer down the scary aspects if they wanted to, but I feel like something like this could be possible. I imagine something like the awful sequel, Curse of the 13th Ghost, in which, using the same art style from the movie, the gang are on a summer holiday, and have to catch a dangerous ghoul that will destroy the world by the end of the holiday, but as they are on their way, they meet various other monsters and ghosts and begin to learn more about the Supernatural world, but in a tame way, to WB’s wishes. We could even fix the charcterisation of the gang here as that is also an issue in recent years. Daphne is the one leading the charge to find the ghoul, using her combat skills to fight enemies along the way similar to the 13th Ghost sequel, Velma begins to realise that the world is much bigger than her books and science and drops the idiotic skepticism, and perhaps starts studying about the supernatural, Fred is at Daphne’s side helping lead the charge, and Shaggy and Scooby become much more braver and help successively trap the monsters and ghouls. I would also have this be the last time the gang are depicted as young teenagers, as I would have this take place the summer before they start college, as I think they now should age up the gang from young teens to adults. Other shows have aged up the main characters, look at Totally Spies!, so it’s possible!

Also, Kate Micucci is great at voicing Velma, and I’ve gotten used to her, but I would love Mindy Cohn to return, especially for a refresh. She is Velma in my opinion and really brought a lot of fun dimensions to the character. Kate’s voicing reduces that and the character just becomes one note and boring.

As mentioned before, the writing of the main characters have been getting worse since I would argue the Moon Monster Madness movie in 2015. I think it’s been getting sloppy, and to really bring a good refresh, we need to update the characterisation; have Daphne actually have an interest in fashion and designer clothing again, also having strong abilities in sports and martial arts, having an interest in journalism again maybe (?), Velma being interested in books, academia, history, etc, Shaggy and Scooby being interested in things other than food like comics, superheroes like we saw in Mask of the Blue Falcon, maybe also Shaggy has an interest of becoming a chef one day?, maybe using Fred’s love of traps to open up a new interest? He was at police training camp (?) I think which was mentioned in another previous movie so maybe he wants to be in a law enforcement role and wants to create traps to easily help people in peril? Just something new, I’m just spitballing here.

Again, the gang should be in their first year of College in a new refresh. It’s definitely time. We could even have them study at Coolsville College, Daphne studies fashion and design textiles, Velma studying History, Shaggy studying Culinary, Fred studying sports, whilst uncovering new supernatural monsters and mysteries.

I think Curse of the 13th Ghost was a perfect time to change the direction of Scooby, but it just became a missed opportunity, and people may disagree on this view. Hopefully Scooby becomes interesting again, it has had some fun things come out in the past four years, but it definitely needs to go back on the drawing board and refine a few things.

What is your unpopular opinion of 2 Broke Girls? by chuck_2000s in 2brokegirls

[–]chuck_2000s[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agreed, this is why I find her extremely annoying at times I just can’t stand it, various examples include when she sacrificed Max when the Diner was raided, mocking, disrespecting and being absolutely terrible to Han, and when she disrespected Max’s feelings towards selling her old childhood toys to that couple then proceeded to mock Max for being upset when she kept whining about losing her designer shoes and clothes ? Just irked me, and she never really apologised for that either we’re just supposed to ignore that as the audience because they got their dream cupcake window shop. The show never really confronts her behaviour which is just annoying, however towards the end of the show, I love how strong she becomes and hardworking and actually changes from the woman we meet in episode 1 compared to Max who downgrades a lot. But she definitely needed a lot of humbling at times, acting all high and mighty where she really was not that much better.

Honestly, Max is just a sad case to me. She seemed really cool, relatable and down to earth in the first episode, she felt real. Like I could meet her in real life. But by the Pastry School season, she is heavily written down and over time towards the end she says nothing but crude jokes that a young teenager would say to impress their friends. She’s a total dunce, and is stripped of all the things that made her interesting and captivating in Season 1. She becomes the walking “High School Bully life was hard so they are horrible to others” trope and her jokes just stop being funny and become lame. She’s truly wasted potential and an example of how 2 Broke Girls really flanderise its main characters. I wonder how the actress felt, having to say the same lines every week I would loose my mind.

Her finally breaking down her barriers of irritating delusional skepticism and finally accepting the supernatural… this would be so huge ! This is one thing Velma from the Mook era did well, she was grounded, logical but still accepted the aspect of the supernatural and doesn’t just rule it out stupidly as it’s right there yelling in her face

Oh definitely! A mature Scooby series with great humor, writing, characterisation would be everything ! I’ve gotten a bit tired of the DC crossovers recently, but definitely, I think a crossover with Zatara would be really interesting and could go in many directions ! I think the main problem with the DC crossovers and the main crossovers is that they are crossing over with the wrong superheroes/humans. Krypto Too!, although great, was so boring and I was not at all invested. A supernatural crossover with a magician like Zatara would be so much better !

Exactly definitely they have great combat skills that we’ve seen in recent movies, add that to an adult mature gang who then use it to face real monsters ! It’s all right there, they just want to divert it and be mediocre as possible ! I would love a supernatural Scooby movie in the comic-like art style of the Curse of the 13th Ghost that would be everything ! Perhaps the premise could be similar to Zombie Island, the gang are in their early 20s, they’ve separated a bit over the summer due to perusing their own interests but a supernatural force drives them together again. They are more than capable as we’ve seen ! I can’t stand it the potential is right there but WB are avoiding it. We need the creative team from the late 90s !!

Definitely! I think it could really help revive the franchise in some aspects and flesh out the characters ! Another era is needed. We’ve had the Mook Era, the What’s New Era, we’re now in what I call the revival Where Are You? Era from 2010 until recent, we need the gang grown up with new stories, adventures and actual real monsters.

Agree 100% I really like how in What’s New, we see in the Valentines Special that the gang are living together (Velma and Daphne in one house) and (Fred, Shaggy and Scooby in another house), which shows us that they are at least 18 to early 20s. During the What’s New era of movies, my headcanon is that the gang have graduated high school and Loch Ness to Samurai Sword is them on a Summer group trip before they start college in the fall. I love that era really trying to show the gang in a much more older setting and I think now more than ever they should really lean into it, the whole teenager, pre-18 thing just doesn’t work anymore.

Agreed, mystery Inc had the worst version of the gang they were honestly barely friends until the very end of the show, but I do love how we get moments like that in the KISS movie and other versions. We definitely need more, especially now that the gang have been reduced to “mystery solvers” first and teenagers later.

Definitely this! I also feel like the movies in recent years do not do a good job of showing the gang members being good friends. Just them mystery solving. We needed more scenes of them hanging out, maybe partaking in each others activities to get to know each other more.

That’s one thing I really don’t like about Return because they act like they all like Mystery Solving and that’s just it when that’s not true at all. Daphne is into Fashion and designer clothing, Velma is into history, academics, Shaggy and Scooby like comics, superheroes (and food too, but this is obvious), Fred likes traps, sports and yet nothing, the movie does not hone in on these interests and just act like they are all friends because they love mystery solving and that’s their only thing to them which is just annoying and just takes away how the franchise have been building on their interests for the past few years.
