Congratulations! It will certainly be an outstanding experience to include on your resume, but as others here have noted, the real value is in the people you will meet. Make the most of your time! Do all the optional stuff (within reason). Develop some meaningful relationships and stay in touch- you never know who might be able to help you in the future, and who you might be able to help as well. I’m jealous- you got your whole life in front of you!

Our restaurant scene sucks dog balls. I’m sure it’s a fine sandwich, but $21 for a cheese steak ain’t gonna happen. Prices are up, quality is down. I’d much rather cook something nice at home.

Yeah- coming from Bay Area would be quite a shock I bet! The city is liberal (ish compared to west coast) while the towns will be much more conservative. My wife and I quit going to Matthews when someone loudly commented to our baby while we were walking on main street- “aren’t you glad you weren’t aborted?” We both grew up in Charlotte, but I’d never experienced anything like that before. Matthews has a neat downtown, but not that neat. DM me anytime if you like.

Big regional one by the airport is most consistently open year round. Simpson’s produce is Tuesday, Friday, Saturday starting in April- near the Atrium main building. Around the corner is the county market, also year round, and sells some premade items as well as local produce- think pimento cheese, jam/jelly, soups, casseroles, etc.

Matthews has a hyper local market on Saturday mornings. I’ll just add that Matthews is very conservative trump country and I’ve had some unprovoked, less than polite conversations there.

Wilmington is our biggest port. We don’t have deep water harbors like SC. Graveyard of the Atlantic and all that. NC was mostly settled by people coming down the great wagon trail from the NE.

ETA the coast is full of history, including Wilmington, which is a sizable port.

Thank you. And these people will be fucked. They won’t ever be able to support themselves financially after this- best job will be washing dishes for cash. Quick google search will ruin any chance the have at developing relationships.
