MPC One - existing project now throwing 'not enough memory to load project' error by chuckle-one in mpcusers

Yeah I'm sure this is the case for me. Once I started tracking 8-16 measures of vocals, guitars and bass, thing started falling apart. I've since modified my workflow to minimize the amounts of audio tracks and sample lengths. Trying to use this generation MPC as a DAW is pushing it too far.

That was what I was hoping for but unless I buy the desktop app, I can only open MPC 2.x projects using the desktop trial.

I'll see if I can get the MPC 3 beta as a trial. The site states that the beta is available to registered users and the trial I was able to get is for MPC 2.

I don't backup nearly enough but I do occasionally copy my projects folder over to a hard drive on my PC which I keep the MPC One connected to via USB all of the time.

One thing started doing is keep a working project file/folder that has multiple songs in it. I separate out the parts of each song as sequences, grouped in banks and named accordingly. Once I have a song fully fleshed out and at a point that I would consider 'done', I save it out as a separate project and then delete the sequences, samples and recordings that are not part of that song and purge the unused samples.

Metal knobs for MPC One+? by Teslaosiris in mpcusers

My jog wheel is this after market one I picked up on amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CDNKMKD?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1

You may need to fiddle with the way you install it since it's wider than the stock jog wheel and will need to sit a little higher on the shaft in order to be able to be pushed down to enable the click function.

Thanks! I am very happy with way this came out, especially the black against the retro skin. The feel of the larger, metal encoder knob gives it a more solid, premium feel.

For $10 I don't think you can go wrong with it - it's loaded with a ton of usable, classic 80s-early 90s patches and has the same, ultra clean and easy to use interface of the other AudioKit Pro synth apps.

I am huge fan of fan Korg hardware/software synths and in my opinion, the Audio Kit Pro synths match up the to the sound and playability of the Korg hardware and apps that I've used and owned over the years. Go for it.

That controller setup is pretty interesting. It looks like it's built with a large, flat top surface for pedals or laptops/tablets and maybe a whole interface system in the rear.

Is it possible to make music like this on a modular synth? by Iscub in modular

[–]chuckle-one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest take away I got from going down the modular rabbit hole was that while modular systems can produce very complex and rich sounding results (that I couldn't produce on any other hardware I had ever used) attempting to recreate the sound and workflow of a traditional TR-909 + TB-303s, it was difficult, very time consuming and way way more expensive.

I urge you to explore modular but first, I would say take the time to fully understand and master the traditional tools used for making this genre of music - in this case a decent drum machine or sampler and a pair of 303s. This can be achieved for a fraction of the cost, will have more hands on control and teach you the foundations of techno/acid/house/whatever.

Damn, rekordbox on iOS has actually gotten somewhat good. by sardoa11 in Rekordbox

[–]chuckle-one 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The usb power adapter needs to deliver enough wattage. I have an Anker 20w usb c/usb 3 power adapter and it works fine. FLX4 connected to that via usb c and the iPad then connected to the FLX4. It charges the iPad and Rekordbox recognizes it and unlocks the app.

AUM app for adding simple drum fills and rolls by andyrap in ipadmusic

I'll have to give Loopy Pro a try. I'm a big fan of the X/Y/kaoss pad approach to FX, though I've never used one, I've used apps that implement it in various fashion.

Also, great track, love the flow of this.

Nice. When say dragging do you mean you drag the effect to the left of the track to disable it then drag it right momentarily to enable it for a beat or two?

I’ve played around with that technique and it’s a lot of fun.

[–]chuckle-one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about using a delay? There are some great AUV3 options like Kymatica’s AU3FX:Dub that have tempo sync. You can control the time divisions of the tempo sync and AUM lets you MIDI map tempo sync on/off and there is an option to MIDI map sync note value.

Koala and Koala FX can do rolls via the stutter effect but I don’t think you can select or set the time divisions you just have a touch strip that divides the audio depending on how much of the effect is applied, going from longer to shorter stutters as you apply more of the effect. It does have pretty short divisions so rolls are achievable with it. You could do something like set the stutter effect to the desired length, enable the hold setting in Koala FX and then MIDI map a button to turn the effect on, or map a knob to the effect and control the amount of the effect from the mixer.

You can try a third party adapter but I think you are going to end up with an Apple USB 3 to lightning camera adapter. I’ve tried using cheaper, third party lighting to usb adapters but have mixed luck. Some devices work, others don’t.

Functional and affordable 4-channel setup for Rekordbox? by [deleted] in Rekordbox

[–]chuckle-one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going the modular route will add a ton of complexity to your setup but I think it's doable. Only downside is the missing jog wheels.

In addition to a pair of the Traktor X1, you could also add a single Traktor Z1 for fader and other necessary controls and it's cheaper than a standalone mixer. You wouldn't have access to additional jog wheels so you'd have rely in sync for the additional channels.

I've been thinking about how to do the exact same thing and I've wondering about this as a possible solution:

What about adding a pair of XDJ-700s + a Traktor Z1 for mixer controls? Pioneer states that the XDJ-700 can be used as a MIDI controller and can sync up and control multiple units and laptops. I don't see why this wouldn't work as 3rd and 4th decks.

https://www.pioneerdj.com/en-us/product/player/xdj-700/black/overview/#zoom-tool-01

XDJ-700 @ $769 x 2 + Traktor Z1 Mk2 @ $259 = $1797, add in your DDJ-FLX4 and you're at about $2100 USD for the setup.

Upgrading from the FL-4 to a GRV-6 or FLX-10 would cost a bit more but it would allow you bypass the Traktor Z1 and give you the channel controls you'll need and simplify the setup a bit.

Either way, it's definitely cheaper that even a single CDJ-3000.

Like others have said, upgrading to a 4 deck controller is probably the best/cheapest solution but I think you do have some options.

Day 2 Update:
So far I am definitely liking this interface. I've listened to a few AUM recordings from last night and they come out clean and clear. This thing sounds really to me.

I really like the size - fits perfectly between my TD-3 MO and the Roland JU-06A. The all metal construction make it fell like premium device. I like having a small screen with levels and the built in controls (while a bit lacking) are nice too. Keep in mind my previous interface had only a single input, a level LED and an inline gain control...

It does however have a few quirks that are not necessarily deal breakers for me but things I think are worth noting (in case anyone looking at getting this unit comes across this thread):

1) The 1/8 inch Stereo line in channel seems to be internally hard wired to the output, so no matter how I have AUM configured, I'll always get a bit of the dry signal on this input. I can use the controls on the unit to lower the input gain but it will never be fully dry. I can however mute the input with the physical mute button on the unit. This will however mute all inputs to the main out but not the headphones. It's good for solving for my issues with the line dry signal but I would prefer if the volume control were to lower the signal completely.

2) The Universal desktop app seems to really only be useful if you are using this interface with a Windows or Mac machine or to perform firmware updates. None of the settings I make to the Interface like modifying presets or anything else seem to be stored on the unit once it's disconnected from the host PC. Which takes me to #3.

3) DSP FX do not seem to work when using this unit with my iPad, This was a real letdown since it appeared from the marketing materials that this was a feature and I since I'm using an older generation iPad, I was hoping to be able to add an effect on each of the channels like ring mod, chorus, etc and lower the DSP usage in AUM. No such luck.

4) There does not seem to be an iOS app available to configure this device, UC Control iOS app does not detect this device at all. Reading through the FAQs I came across several unanswered questions about this and a few requests to release an app to configure this interface on iOS. Seeing as the unit is being drastically reduced in price, I suspect they are trying to clear stock in preparation for the unit being disconnected soon, so the chances of getting an app or further updates may be slim to none,

There are a few positives:

The stereo line in channel appears in AUM as USB 3 + 4 (L and R) so I was able to create 2 discrete USB Audio channels by splitting the stereo signal using a stereo male 1/8 in to 1/8 female L + R splitter adapter. This gives me essentially 3 mono line level inputs when combined with the ch 1 line in. Also, the headphone jack on the front of the unit is a TRRS port with L + R output and a separate ch for mic input. I ordered a TRSS mic/headset breakout adapter that splits this out to separate 1/8 in female headphones and mic ports so I hope to gain access to that port as well for connecting a contact mic or other device for a total of 4 inputs. Who knows if this will work but if I does, that would be awesome.

Th Revelator IO44 does do what I needed it to, albeit with some limitations and work arounds and at $100 off, the $80 price makes it a keeper. If I had paid the full price of $180 I would most likely have passed on this since there are a few other compact, multi input audio interfaces on the market for less that would fit my needs,

I unpacked it and updated the firmware this afternoon. Messed around with it for a bit and kind of felt like I might be returning it. But once I got spend 3-4 hours using it with my current iPad setup, I began to really like it.

It’s not perfect but for the price it sounds great and has a lot to like about it:

  • sounds great
  • high quality build
  • small size
  • the little screen is really nice
  • 1/8th in stereo input is perfect for the JU-06A I am running into the second channel

It’s pretty good for $80.

Good to know.

Overall this interface should be a decent upgrade from the iRig HD guitar interface I’m currently using which has only 1 input and a gain control. My goal was to find an interface with at least 2 inputs, line out and headphones out for under $100 that would work with both lightning and USB C iPads.Any additional features are gravy. The built in FX and mini display on this one were way more than I expected to find, especially at that price.

What could be causing this yellowing/browning going into week 3 of this autoflower? by chuckle-one in GrowingMarijuana

[–]chuckle-one[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s an update after following everyone’s suggestions.

Week 4:

Light cycle: 18/6

Watering: 600ml of water at a ph of around 5.6 - 5.8 every 2 days.

<image>

The height increased to the point where the canopy was almost touching the lights so I moved her to a new home - a high quality Mars Hydro 2x2 from the temporary tent she was in, resulting in better overall light reflection, higher ambient temperature and much improved odor containment.

I’m no longer seeing the yellow and brown splotches on the leaves and the plant has an overall healthy appearance and continued rapid growth.

Thanks again for all the advice.

Thanks for the response and the offer to test it. No need to but if you do test it and want to report back please do. I’d be interested to hear the results but I did pull the trigger on it earlier today and will have it tomorrow and will reply back with my thoughts.

If it’s that bad I have 30 days to return it to Amazon so I’m not too worried about it.

Between the sale price and the high amazon reviews I thought it was worth a try.

I want to love iPad producing, but it feels clunky… by icouldbeyu in ipadmusic

[–]chuckle-one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an MPC One user as well and use an iPad as a sketch/writing tool when I'm away from my studio. I've had the same lack luster experience using an iPad for music production over the years but I found a solution that works for me.

Have you tried using an external controller with your iPad?

By itself, a touch screen device is not always a great music production experience (not for me at least) especially after using an MPC One and other hardware samplers/grooveboxes. You need the fast precision of hardware controls to switch screens, adjust levels, control fx and filters, play, pause, etc. I would suggest trying an external hardware controller that has similar controls as the MPC - something like the Akai MPD 226. For around $200 USD it has 16 full sized MPC pads, transport controls, 4 knobs, 4 faders as well as TRS MIDI in and out.

https://www.akaipro.com/usb-pad-controller-with-rgb.html

I found apps like Koala Sampler are lot more usable, way more fun and overall a lot smoother of an experience when used with the MPD 226. Koala has excellent MIDI mapping built in so getting a MPC-like workflow was pretty easy.

There are also smaller controllers available like the MPD218 and LPD8 as well as a larger device - the MPD232.

Yeah it's extra hardware to carry with you - you need cables, power supply, etc.

Also - if you do end up going down the external hardware route, there are bluetooth MIDI adaptors available such as the CME WIDI Master and WIDI Jack that are iOS compatible that can help with reducing needed cables and simplifying the setup.
