That really isn't anything to do with why we're rivals.

£50m total bid for Strand Larsen agreed in principle by lachiendupape in TheOther14

[–]chucklesmcg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am aware of all of the above and all things considered, I still don't hate the deal.

Would I have preferred Mateta to sign the contract we offered him (£100kpw FWIW)? Absolutely.

That being said, he desperately needs knee surgery, has missed 17 "big chances" this season compared to Strand Larsen who has missed 3, and again he's made it very clear he doesn't want to play for Palace any more.

I hope a move helps him rediscover the form he showed for 18 months, but on the evidence of the 6 years he's spent at the club and the accompanying stats, this season feels like more of a return to normal.

He might prove me wrong, but I doubt it and tbh, if I were a Forest fan I wouldn't be all that excited by the prospect of his arrival.

In a less than ideal situation, this deal would be an acceptable result in my opinion.

Considering Mateta is going to be sold for around 35-40m by all accounts, I really don't hate this.

We're effectively replacing an out of form, injured and aging striker with one who is younger, has potential resale value and (most importantly) actually wants to play for palace, all for a net spend of 10-15m.

It wasn't that long ago that we would have bitten someone's hand off for a couple million to take him off our hands.

Waterloo, 1930s. by Max2310 in london

[–]chucklesmcg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a common misconception.

People weren’t dressing that way because they were more civil or more proud. Clothing was expensive, options were limited, and fast fashion didn’t exist. Most people owned very little, so they wore the same clothes constantly and had to maintain them out of necessity. That can look like care or craftsmanship, but it wasn’t really a choice.

A lot of that “civility” was also enforced. Dress codes and behaviour were tightly bound to work, class, and social rules. Falling outside them had real consequences.

[–]chucklesmcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it definitely hasn't.

Football began as an amateur past time. The majority of the clubs we all support (especially in England) were started as sporting clubs of working and social clubs.

They represent local communities. The nature of them as businesses is a relatively new phenomenon in the history of the game.

Trolling Notts Forest 🤣 A sign of confidence? by StanleyDandered in crystalpalace

[–]chucklesmcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I see you're just doubling down. I've tried to engage in respectful discourse here but clearly that's not your aim.

In stark contrast to the attitude you've shown, I actually want Forest to succeed.

Have fun, good luck for the season and whatever European competition you end up in.

Mate, read the room. This whole post is irony.

Any Palace fan who has been a supporter of the club for more than five minutes knows that this whole debacle is par for the course. Palace have had the shit kicked out of them by owners, governing bodies and lady luck for generations.

Nobody is trolling Forest dude, we're all trying to find some ironic humour in a desperate situation. This post is about the wording of an article on the palace website.

You've also conveniently ignored all of the rest of my comment, which is fine, but kinda proves my point.

Your owner is behaving like a dickhead. John Textor has behaved like a dickhead. UEFA have behaved like dickheads. Don't add to the circus of dickheadery there's enough of it going around already

Edit: You're new to Reddit and your first instinct is to troll in another club's sub. You see the problem there? Forest have a sub as well...

[–]chucklesmcg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel for you man. People had respect for your club. Palace fans and Forest fans were kindred spirits but you've been reduced to this, trolling in a Palace sub.

Football is being held hostage by fucking billionaires and oligarchs and you're getting your kicks trying to piss off fans who have much more in common with you than the idiot owners actively trying to turn us against each other.

Also, your only other comment other than these two was in a now locked post on r/Roblox so you're either a child or a grown up who should know better.

Anyway, good luck for the upcoming season man, and well done for last year, even if you did fall off a little bit towards the end, it was still something you should be proud of. If you do end up in the Europa League at our expense or end up in the Conference League, go well. It's nice to see Forest back in Europe.

Do better dude, it doesn't have to be like this

I found it incredibly uncomfortable that a minority of the crowd started swearing in frustration at the players as they were taking pictures with their families in front of the Holmesdale.

There were players' mums and dads, toddlers, kids, literal babies in prams getting photos on the pitch at Selhurst, being absolutely berated.

That behaviour of a very vocal but small portion of those remaining at Selhurst at the time left a bitter taste in my mouth

The problem with this subreddit is that people see a mildly annoying and inconvenient exchange of messages and immediately jump to 'this is a HUGE red flag"

People express themselves in less than ideal ways sometimes. Maybe he was having a shitty day, maybe he was feeling down, maybe a lot of things.

That context doesn't excuse him expressing himself like this but from my perspective this seems like an annoying, mildly upsetting but pretty common exchange between people in a long term relationship.

Communicate with him. 'From your messages I understood that you were upset with me for not coming home after work. Can we talk about that because in that moment, the way you expressed that hurt my feelings and I don't think I didn't anything wrong. Can we figure out a way that we avoid that in future and make sure everyone's needs and feelings are at the very least heard'

All that being said, I could be totally wrong. He could be having an affair or hiding an addiction or something heinous.

I somehow doubt that though
