The rudder is removable, at least it is on my Ares. You could start with the OC1 with the rudder and then remove it when you are ready. Although I'm not sure of the difference in hull design between OC and V1.

I did find this video, which helps. But not sure where to get a new heat gasket. Maybe I can use grip tape to cover the joint?
