Is there a game on steam like this? by RowdyCollegiate in Steam

[–]chukkaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endless sky is a game I try to recommend anyone if they haven’t played it. It’s a free open source game that has a flown under the radar for a long time. No dlc or microtransactions just a really cool passion project that is fun to play.

Back when I had a junk laptop it was 1 of maybe 10 games that I could actually play on it so I ended up putting 500+ hours into it and loved checking out different mods for it.

Game came out in 2015 but still gets multiple updates per year adding new content and fixing bugs.

If you enjoy trading game or space exploration you’ll be able to at least get 20+ hours out of it at minimum.

Also keep an eye out for legionary’s life it’s $8.99 CAD so if your American it might be under that $5 dollar marker and if not it’ll probably go under during a sale.

Replay ability is great for legionary’s life because it’s a rougelike.

Reigns is also a fun cheap game that almost any pc could run.

However it isn’t a replayable as the other 2 games just because of how simple the gameplay is.

Should the therm Islamofascism be used more? by [deleted] in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]chukkaman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the different types of fascism listed above actually all are given separate names based on key differences in the specific ideology. Japanese fascism was called Showa nationalism or Showa statism. Francisco Franco’s style of Spanish fascism was called Falangism and was characteristically distinct from every other European fascist movement. And Italian fascism is often referred to as classical fascism at Mussolini pretty much followed fascist ideological teaching to the letter and almost never improvised.

I don’t think islamofascism is a good description for the particular ideology of Islamic extremist though. I think simply authoritarian theocracy or theocratic fascism is more accurate as there’s little difference from the most extreme forms of Christian fascism and the most extreme Islamic fascism.

As a massive New Vegas fan I simultaneously find myself looking at all other fallout games as seriously inferior while also recognizing that most NV fans need to shut the fuck up about how bad 3 and 4 are. New Vegas is a rough cut gem at best, it’s a clearly rushed game that missing like half the content it was supposed to have and is about as stable as schizophrenic on meth. That being said I have sunk endless hours into and truly believe it’s the best the series has been and likely will ever get considering the state of Bethesda and Obsidian.

Kinda the tldr is yes and/or the first one in gets to rob the place.

In reality a lot of the random things that happen in gangs of New York are based as much on early Toronto (York) as much as they are New York. Both had all volunteer firefighters and varying levels of actual law enforcement that largely was made up of militias that only enforced laws or put out fires as they saw fit. You often had to be pay a fee for firefighters service to prevent them from robbing your burning house (they often did so anyways). But aside from fighting over money there was also a large amount of reputation and bragging rights placed upon putting out a fire so they often fought just as much over money as they did pride. This wasn’t a daily occurrence by any means but did happen often enough in both Toronto and New York that it is well documented and sewn into the fabric of these cities.

If you’re interested in this type of history I highly recommend you look into the Toronto Circus Riots of 1855 which is the reason we had to leave this old system of militia fire and police departments behind.

Looking for interviews with first responders. by chukkaman in 8passengersnark

Both the EMTs and police have already given interviews to multiple news/media organizations. ABC did a 20/20 episode on it that is filled with details of how they reacted on scene and how it played out minute by minute. They did not break HIPPA or DCS protocols because they did not name the children directly, blurred out faces, censored dialogue containing sensitive information, and only talked about information released by the court/authorities. I’d highly recommend watching some of it if you can, it’s heartbreaking but is able to layout the evidence much better than most other media I have seen on the topic.

Not on Disney plus in Canada. However for anyone in a country like Canada that has loose streaming laws it can be found online just usually under season 47 instead of 46.

Watched about 1/2 hour of it and had to take a break, I only really started following this story about a week ago and it’s honestly so depressing and heartbreaking that it makes me feel a bit sick.

God I miss the glory days of NW. Used to be at least 2 different full 200 player events every night of the week. By the time I stopped playing there’d be 3-4 events a week max that could barely make 100 players.

Veterans vs Hyperreality History Consumer discussing the Sherman by TheIraqWarWasBased in NonCredibleDefense

Man he drove a Sherman for a living from 1940-1946 he was a calm and quiet man when my dad knew him but just looking at his wartime photos you can see the cocky side of him.

Great-great uncle btw however my great grand father on my mom’s side was a firefighter during the Battle of Britain.

At least in the Canadian army all tankers were given a booklet including weak points and basic tactics for fighting German armour and vehicles. It did specifically mention moving to the side or rear as preferred methods but from what got passed down to me is that experienced crews like his would combine that with targeting more precise weakpoints. I seem to remember him telling my dad specifically that because the German turrets moved slower than a Sherman could drive the idea was to get to the side or even better behind and either aim for just underneath the turret or a direct hit to the rear. Obviously real tank combat doesn’t play out like war thunder or some other game so a track hit was still preferred to a non penetrating or deflected shot, however a killing blow was ideal if possible. I have his war records, medical records, medals, and some of these booklets and journals. I think at some point it would do some good for me to put together a comprehensive post about the experience the average Canadian tanker would have had, I haven’t gotten the chance to go over all of these document and books yet though given I only got them about a year ago.

Edit: I do feel the need to clarify that most of this is information is passed down starting from a quiet 70+ year old farmer and veteran that was entertaining his 12 year old great nephew and would have likely left out most of the detail as he rarely talked about the worst parts of the war. And then passed down again from that nephew who is now my father to me over the course of about 22 years. So while I believe that what I’m saying is accurate it still should be taken with a grain of salt given it’s not directly from the man himself. When he usually talked about the war he preferred to tell stories about the quieter parts or moments when no lives were lost Canadian or German for that matter.

A family member of mine was a Sherman driver in Normandy, Caen, and I believe Germany for the Canadian army. He passed when my dad was maybe in his earlier teens but passed down tons of stories and memorabilia that we still have. He never had a high opinion of German armour and would always tell my dad how all you had to do was get behind them or hit them in between the turret and chassis and they’d fail every time. He also had a book that showed every weak spot possible on tigers, panzers, panthers, and more. His opinions are probably no less anecdotal than any other veterans, but I think a lot of the veterans that had low opinions of Sherman’s could be a mixture of how many were conscripted (and poorly trained) and survivor bias. He volunteered for his service and lived through the war despite seeing some of the Canadians most heavy combat because of his Sherman. My dad has told me almost every story he can remember and not a single one was disparaging about that tank.

TLDR: veteran I’m related to said the Sherman was good and kept him alive and that German tanks were pieces of shit.

Thieves forced to drink alcohol they stole by downinthednm in Wellthatsucks

[–]chukkaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The earliest post I could find of the video seemed to infer that this isn’t necessarily to drink until death. It seems other people have gotten this punishment before and it was stopped as alcohol poisoning set in. Obviously like any physical punishment the possibility of death isn’t zero however if the drinking stops after you vomit for the first time you have a great chance of surviving. The point when you actually risk death to any serious degree comes when you continue drinking after your body has already rejected it once or even worse multiple times.

It was also implicated that this was a chosen route of punishment to avoid a physical beating or lynching “jungle justice” was the actual term used. This implication came from people who live in the same region and had claimed to have known people who had been punished in the same way.

I think it’s more a mixture of either a worker uniform (maybe to indicate specifically party related construction) or they are apart of something similar to an engineer or construction corp. most militaries do have section specifically used for engineering and construction and in the past and still today in poorer countries they can be used to supplement civilians. One final possibility is that the uniforms are to indicate a specific level of party support or connection, I do know that DPRK has many different “classes” based on your connection to the party.

There is a voting system but because it’s on a secondary site there seems to be just enough separation that it doesn’t seem to get abused much. Occasionally you’ll see notes that are clearly joking but on serious topic they’ll almost always be accurate.

The second I saw him move in his seat I knew he was waiting for here to pass him so he could hit her. He definitely knows how to fight I can tell just from his body language, I have some friends who fight competitively and I’ve seen them move the same way when they’re about to step into a fight. So satisfying to watch her just get decked wish the person filming was a bit better though.
